Nascar & ICR2 - Network game?

I have Nascar and Indycar Racing II.  I also have 2 PCs set up via athernet
cables.  Is it possible to link these games via an IPX style network as in
Doom and other siilar type games?  The manuals only seemt to really mention
modem links.  Or do I have to make a null modem cable or something to play
against my friends?  (I am getting sick of shooting them in Doom and Duke3d -
I'd much rather knock them off the road in Nascar :-)

Scott.

You need a server to do an IPX link. So if you have a Novell network in
your house, have fun. If not, null-modem cable is your only option.

To be perfectly honest, you don't have to have a dedicated server to have IPX
support.  Personal Netware (used to be Netware Lite) is a peer-to-peer
network operating system that runs with dos/windows.  One or both machines
can be both servers and workstations and it has complete IPX support.  It's
gonna be a mute point shortly as Novell has plans to stop using IPX as their
default protocol anyway.

Ah but, does it handle logins? The network option on Nascar needs the
login name of your opponent.

What little I know about network programming, its probably likely that
Nascar handles all comms through the server.

I'm not saying it doesn't work, but it would be nice if someone would
try it and tell us the results.

Any recent Netware client for DOS will work just fine, load all of the
client up to VLM.EXE, do not load VLM, your done.  No server needed
(if your systems are on the same physical network).

Any 3COM network card driver disk has a program called Autolink that
will install the Netware client.

Brett, have you actually done this for NASCAR?
What do you type on the DOS command line for Computer A?
   NASCAR -S -N:B?
What do you type on the DOS command line for Computer B?
   NASCAR -S -N:A?

What file on computer A identifies it as "A"?
What file on computer B identifies it as "B"?

Sorry to have to ask for all of the little details,
but I have heard so many times over and over again
that this WILL NOT WORK without a dedicated Novell
server.  Can you please list the drivers and files
that are loaded and confirm that you have actually
done this for NASCAR?

Thanks!

I think you need a Netware server for this. Both players need to be
loged into the server with a valid user id. Then, user A types NASCAR
/N:(LOGIN ID OF USER B), and user B types NASCAR /N:(LOGIN ID OF USER
A).

This is the way it works.
