Formula One had young star by the name of "Michael Schumacher" who was
at the time, a fast burner and gaining popularity.  Thus, when Senna passed
away, it was Schumacher who took up the role of "Best driver, like him or
hate him".
Now, with the passing of Dale Earnhardt Sr., is there anyone out on the
NASCAR circuit who can fill his shoes and role in the sport?

It'll be either Stewart or Little E, they race the most like Earnhardt did.

No.  And it wouldn't be fair to ask anyone to try...

There was and is only one true "Intimidator", and this is a terrible,
totally unexpected loss.

I still hope that I wake up from some sort of Flu-Induced fever to find that
it was all a bad dream, but I know that it isn't :(

All I can do now is root for Jr, and and wish him and his family the best.

It's true to say that each era has it's legend.  As far as a replacement,
each era's legend stands on their own.  So, I'm not looking for a
replacement.  That said, if we look from the existing crop, there's the
obvious choice in Dale Jr. - certainly from a symbolic standpoint.  However,
I think Tony Stewart's driving style is a closer match to The Intimidator's
driving style.  I just don't think of Tony as being old school though - and
this is part of what made DE what he was to his fans.

Laugh if you must but the guy I saw a bit of intimidator in
was...surprisingly...Ron Hornaday.  Now granted he isnt proven yet.  But I saw
a bit of Earnhardts driving style in his performance yesterday.  He wasnt
afraid to stick his nose in there and mix it up a bit.  Only time will tell
however who will become the next driver to assume Earnhardt like status.

Talent aside, something about Tony Stewart bugs me.  I didn't get this
feeling until about 1/2 way through last year.

It's the same sort of thing that buts me about the #31 driver (I'm having
brain fade right now).

I can't put my finger on it, it's just there.

I agree. Ron is a hard nosed driver and fits A.J.'s belief of what a driver
should be.

Michael Waltrip. The guy will win the 15 times this year. Only 14 to go.

Stewart doesn't remind me of Earnhardt. He reminds me of Tim Richmond. To quote
a teacher I had in high school, "think about it".

I can't see Tony Stewart killing himself with a life of debauchery the
way Richmond did.  Their on-track attitudes are similar, but that's
where it ends.
