I recently installed an Intergraph Reactor video card in my computer
and installed the Rendition version of ICR2 that came with it.  I was
very, very impressed with the graphics in the new tracks and the
framerates are amazing.  My question is, will Nascar2 use the same
graphics engine and produce the same kind of framerates we're getting
in ICR2?  And, if so, why didn't they optimize the demo?  If the
graphics engine already existed for ICR2, it doesn't seem like it
would have been that much trouble to have the N2 demo using it.  The
reason I ask is that I'm running ICR2 and N2 (when it comes out) on a
P75 and I'm really concerned about framerates for svga.  ICR2 is
wonderful.  Will N2 be the same?

From what I understand, Nascar2 will be Rendition ready out of the box, or
it will run in regular SVGA for those who don't have a Rendition card.
Since you have a Reactor card, framerates and performance of Nascar2 should
be very good I would think. If you like how your machine runs ICR2 you
should like how it runs Nascar2.

Chris,

I believe that Nascar2 will be rendition ready.  I'm not quite sure why
they didn't put it in the demo except that when the demo was released
there was hardly a mention in this group about the Reactor or similar
cards.

It should have a similar framerate to what you are getting on ICR2.

See you later.

[snip]
I would think that the reason the Rendition optimized code was not
used for the demo was simply this: compatibility!  If you've watched
all of the posts about the problems running the demo with non-intel
CPUs, just imagine the carnage that would be going on with the several
types of video adapters out there.  The fact that they even released a
demo was pretty gracious of them, and they got severely ***ed at for
it!  I feel better that they released it, and went right back to work
on the final version.  Just one racer's humble opinion.

The story goes that Sierra rushed the demo out the door and a lot of
stuff was left out :(

It would seem to me a bit silly to take the time to put Rendition
graphics in a demo released in September, when no one would have a
Rendition board to try them out until late October or November (by
which time the full product should almost be out anyways).  Heck, they
didn't even put in non-Pentium code for 486 and Cyrix users or <16 meg
machines!

That said, I sure wouldn't mind having it in the demo now...  ;)
