Sierra Pre-Order: CHECK THIS OUT!

by J.Maxwel » Thu, 19 Dec 1996 04:00:00

Here's my Sierra Direct Horror Story:
I ordered NASCAR2 late Thursday December 5th via Sierra Direct over the
Internet (because we had not yet gotten it here in Nebraska and everybody
said they were not expecting it until around now.)  Also note that I did
choose 8$ 2nd day air.   The next day (Fri Dec 6th) I got a call from
Software Etc. saying that my reserved copy came in that afternoon.  So
Saturday I called Sierra about 1pm and asked if I could cancel my order
that evidently had not been placed yet; they said call back around 6pm that
night.  Assuming I could get my order cancelled, I went out and picked up
N2 Sat. afternoon.  I called Sierra back around 7pm CST and after giving
the guy all my information he said the order has been cancelled, end of
story right?  NOT!  ALMOST 2 WEEKS LATER N2 ARRIVES AT MY DOOR WITH A 2 DAY
AIR STICKER ON IT!  I called and Sierra processed the cancelled order on
Mon Dec 9th and charged my credit card on Dec 10th but the part that gets
me is that 2 DAY AIR TOOK 8 DAYS TO GET HERE!  (What if I needed a new
liver via 2nd day air or something?!?)  Now I have to send it back to some
Sierra Refund address and spend more freaking money to have it sent back.
Impatience does not pay off, expecially now, I went to Best Buy and they
are selling N2 for $29.99 and have about a million copies!

Well you might have gotten the liver in 4 days.

snip, snip

This would only be an issue if Sierra got into the live-organ shipment
business.  Makes me think what would happen when the dry-ice melts.
YUCK!  Not a liver I would want put into me ;)

FYI.  I had no problems with pre-ordering.  I received N2 < 1 week after
release and without running all across town looking for it - not too bad.

It's there all right, it's just that the ftp directory on their link is
incorrect. The real link is:

ftp://ftp.next-generation.com/pub/nextgen/incoming/srally.zip

Type the preceding address into your URL entry section of your browser.
It's 14.5 MB long, comes with Direct 3X or whatever those drivers are,
and well, the game really kicks ass. It took me an 1 hour 10 mins. to
download, but I've got a beautiful connection with a 28.8 modem. It will
probably take longer for you to download. I'm running it on a Cyrix 6x86
P150+ with 32 MB of RAM. Quite smooth at 640 X 480. You need Win 95. It
kind of feels too slippery. For expample, in corners the car slides
pretty much at the touch of the wheel, almost no resistance. Another
thing that sucks is there isn't any possible rollovers (maybe I'm
wrong), no doughnuts, no smoke from the tires, and no tires marks on the
pavement like on NFS. Other than that, go download it.
