Super 1 Karting

by BRH » Mon, 31 Dec 2001 05:41:45

I just picked up Super 1 Karting from EB on an impulse (Maybe that was a
mistake....), and I can't get it installed.  Actually, the installation
program DOES work, but it doesn't seem to install a game.  When I start
the game after installation (either thru the desktop icon or the from
the Start menu), it opens up a webpage for the publisher, Outerbound
Games.  On the website, there's a button marked "Race", but clicking on
it produces nothing more than an engine sound.

I explored the contents of the CD, and of the installed "Outerbound
Games" folder, and I'm not sure that an actual game is even hidden in
there somewhere.  The readme file is totally of no use, and no manula
comes with the game (naturally).

I've seen lots of commercial software, and lots of PC games, in my time,
but this is the strangest thing I've ever seen.

Does anyone here have this game, and have you gotten it to run?  If so,
how?

Just to dbl-check, my CD came in a Jewel case marked "eGames" on the
side.  The CD is labeled Super 1 Karting.  The total space taken up on
the CD is roughly 233 Megabytes (much of which is IE5).  Is this CD what
I'm supposed to get with this game?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks to all for the help so far.  I did a search for kart.exe and did
find it on my system (although not in the folder you mentioned).
However, whenever I double-click on it, I get an hourglass for 2 seconds
or so, then it disappears, then nothing happens.  The system does not
lock up, but the game never loads either -- not even to a splash screen.

Is there something that I need to configure in one of the config*.txt
files?

Megs RAM.

Any help is appreciated.

I just picked this up a day or two ago and I have a solution for your
problem.

I installed it in XP and it worked great except I couldnt get the pedals on
my gameport MSFF to be on the same axis, so I couldnt play it.

I switched over to my ME partition and installed it from there.  I had the
same experience you had, exactly.  I decided to check the website of the
game developer for info, patches, etc.  I found a patch (version 1.3 I
think?) and downloaded it.  I renamed the original exe and installed the two
files from the patch into the SK1 folder.

It then started (and ran) perfectly, even though the files from the patch
had an earlier date than the ones installed from the CD.

here is the page with the link for the patch and some other info:

Daxe,

You are the MAN!  I downloaded the patch, installed it, and can now load the
game.  I haven't started playing with it yet, but at least I now can get started
with it.

I still say that the configuration of the files and interface on the CD that I
bought, is the weirdest thing I've ever seen.

Thanks a lot.

Super 1 Karting

Well, I got the game running and finally got my controller (LWFF) recognized.
Unfortunately, it's only recognized when set to combined axis.  IS there any way to
use split axis with this game?

Thanks to all, again.

Far as I know it only reads two axes, therefore the trouble with getting my
MSFF to work with the forced three axes.

I also have XP upstairs on another computer and installed the Kart sim
there, too.  The wheel on that computer is one of those newer (cheezy)
Logitech WFFGP.  I tried separate axis for the pedals on that in case it was
just a Microsoft weirdness but no dice there, either.  In fact, I was unable
to get it to see the pedals if I made an individual game profile for S1K, I
had to globally change it to combined axis.

Now..back to Screamer 4x4..
