CH pedals brake spring increase

by parche » Fri, 26 Nov 1999 04:00:00

Gentlemen,
            I've decided to use my CH Propedals with my LWFF for GPL again,
after trying them before and not being able to "feel" the brakes properly.
The throttle is really good with much more range than the Logi pedals, but
the brake pedal needs to be MUCH harder. I have heard of using a squash ball
under the brake, but doubt if this would give the stiffness I crave
 oooo-errrr!). But seriously, have any of you "mechanics" out there modified
the CH pedals to increase the stiffness of the brake pedal, and if so how?
                                            TIA..

i tried a squash-ball first, but could not fix it good enough. so I did
the following:

 - remove the brake pedal plate
 - attach a big elastic (one to use with preserving jars) to the
   screw on the heel end
 - put on the plate
 - attach the other end of the elastic to a cord, which goes around
   the whole base and is tied to the base of the brake pedal itself

looks like this from top (attention: bad ascii-art ;-) ):

              || <- joystick cord
     cord \   ||
        ___|__||_____
       |  _|_    ___  |
       | |   |  |   | |
       | |   |  |   | |
       | |   |  |   | |
       | | # |  |   | |
       |  -#-    ---  |
       |   #          |
        ---#----------
            \
             elastic

and from the side:

      brake pedal   base plate
          /        /
       ++++++++++#/
           \  |  /#
     /------|-| /  #
     | +++++++++++ # <- elastic
     \-------------#
       |
       cord

works pretty well :-)

Thanks, great tip, I also found a squash ball of little use. I'll try
it immediately when I get home, I'll let you know the results!
