I agree 100%. I had Indycar & Nascar before I bought World Circuit, but
when I bought the F1 simulation, both of those games went into memories.
WC may not have the best graphics, but it's far better than IC and Nascar
in terms of reality and fun (espesially with all the editors and
features).

I ageee, World Circuit blows any Papryus game into the weeds. Which fully
explains why WC has outsold both ICR and Nascar combined.

F1GP is the MAX, it amazed me from the first time I started it up on my Amiga,
3,5 years ago now, and I STILL play it every week on my PC!
No boring oval tracks, but ability to play it by keyboard instead of one of
those terrible PC-joysticks, editors by the bunch and an Internet-competition.
What more do you need ? Not even a 133 MHz Pentium !

If you prefer WC instead of IndyCar you ought to buy NFS which is a very good
and enjoyable *game*, and not Grand Prix 2 which will demand as much from the
driver and setup as IndyCar and NASCAR do.
It seems that Grand Prix 2 is going to be a full blown *simulator*.
I don't say that NASCAR/IndyCar, etc. are high brow and everything else sucks,
I am just saying that it's unfair to compare a game to a simulation.
It would be *very* interesting to hear _why_ you prefer WC to, say, IndyCar even
though they belong to different worlds.
(I know this one is old but I want hear this!)

Well, if you would have bothered to look, you could turn the AI speed way
up to 125%. This means that you will NOT be winning.
The three reasons IndyCar sucks for me is the FACT that the AI seems to
enjoy pressing the brake peddle. I would often be following a car
through a slower corner, trying to set him up for a nice sling shot move,
when he decides that the peddle of choice would be the brake peddle.
Another reason is the FACT that when driving behind another car, they
will move over and drive a completely different line. Turn 10 at Toronto
is a very good example. They move way to the outside and slow down. All
you have to do is stay on line and dive under them. Yea, right, way too
easy to pass. (btw, I'm not talking about when they move over slowing for
a corner to defend, that's WAY cool, and also predictable).
The third reason I dislike IndyCar is the FACT that when you are slowing
for a corner AND HOLDING YOUR LINE, some AI car will try and outbrake you
(the part I love), but almost always will just try to run through your
gear box instead of going to the inside (the part I hate). They do this
too often and make racing in this game a huge JOKE!
I do enjoy it for the car physics. Getting a nice four wheel drift is
pretty cool. You cannot, however, take IndyCar seriously as a sim.
There isn't a driver in the world (except for Mansell) that brakes tests
you coming OUT of the corner or when you get too close behind him in a draft.
No one would move over for you to make a pass for position. Granted they
do often hit each other trying to outbrake each other, but it doesn't
happen in real life nearly as often as in this GAME.

I'm a bit biased because I've written editors and utilities for the Amiga
and PC versions of F1GP (so I've probably put in hundreds of hours of
game time) ... but, there are plenty of things that bug me about NASCAR
and Indycar racing. I'll describe just two little, maybe insignificant
features found in F1GP, that aren't in the Papyrus games:
During the race, I love the way in F1GP you can use the up and down
cursor keys to cycle through the other driver's cars. If you're blasting
down the straight at Monza, you can take a quick breather and check
out how far behind the the next guy is without really even having to
think about it. Can you do this in Indycar racing or NASCAR? No, you
have to leave the***pit and go through the menus to do a replay.
Also, in F1GP, if you crash out of the race, you can ride with one of
the other cars (skipping in and out of accelerated time if you wish)
until the finish. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember you
can't do this in the Papyrus games.
It's little touches like these that demonstrate the genius of Geoff
Crammond as a game designer as well as a programmer.
I'm quite confident that Grand Prix II will blow Indycar, NASCAR and
their sequels out of the water. In fact, the only game I'd be worried
about from Microprose's point of view is the soon to be released fully
licensed Grand Prix for the Sega Saturn. I've spoken to someone who's
seen a video of it, and apparently it's totally amazing.

Oh yeah, if only we could have a sim that combines all the best
qualitites of ICR, NASCAR, F1GP, & GP2...that would be something!
Personally I like F1 real-world racing more than IndyCar, mostly
'cause I know the drivers better and love the high-tech stuff,
but in the PC-games/sim arena, ICR & NASCAR are the ones to
beat...
Can't wait to get my hands on GP2 _AND_ ICR2 ... :)

Is it not that case that it is F1GP, or WC as it is called in the
US? The program is based on the Formula 1 racing, I don't remember
that nice Mr S being 'World Circuit World Champ", but rather
"Formula 1 World Champ".

I admit that I didn't turn off all the help(I used traction control and
the keyboard which also means that I had steering help) when I used F1GP.
When I quitted playing F1GP I could lap the AI several times at the Pro level
on the tracks that I ran on. (Australia, Silverstone, Hockenheim, Barcelona,
Suzuka, Monaco, Spa-Francorchamps, Phoenix and Hungary).
Well, with ICR and NASCAR you have to invest a lot of time in order to get a very
good setup, just like in the real world. But to me the actual racing is of course
the thing I appreciate the most. You have to understand how the shocks, camber,
tire pressure and tire compunds influence the car handling in order to be a successful
setup man. And the rewards are so great in the race that I would feel empty if I
knew that I didn't deserve the setup. The way that you have to work to get good
handling of the car is the life *** of ICR and NASCAR and these features are of
paramount importance to a racing simulation freak like myself.
And btw don't talk about race tactics in F1GP. There's no refueling, no change of
setup during the pit stop like adjusting wings, etc, although you can change the tire
compound. There's no point of taking care of your tires since the sim decreases the
tire performance linearly anyhow. Eg, C compound lasts 30 laps, even if you lap 20
seconds slower per lap.
I don't say that ICR is any better but at least your driving affects the tire temperatures.
Drive too hard for too long and a tire might blow.
Btw in ICR driving lines and braking points are the very fabric of a successful lap along
with your setup.
Mind you, every race sim, even NFS and Outrun!!!, have included the concept of braking and
turn radius, uhhh.
Anyhow, good times ahead with GP 2 and ICR 2.0 coming out in a month or so!
We'll have another debate when we've bought those and maybe will GP 2 surpass ICR 2.0,
or vice versa. That will be the debate. :-)

I guess you will be disappointed by Grand Prix 2 (WC 2) because it comes with more
garage options than ICR(that's what I heard from a friend who tested it at ECTS in London)
You will have to spend more than a couple of hours in the garage from now on.

I used to play 3 FULL length GPs (7 hours) a day during revising (or
not) for my university finals! What a sad git I am.
I still play it on the PC. ICR and NASCAR are good fun and I play them
too but F1GP is just the best. The others don't have the same
atmosphere to the game.
