OT Poll: What are gas prices in your area?

Yes, I can confirm what is written above. We voted a few years ago to
pay .20 CHF (about .15 USD) more a liter. That meant an increase in
prices of about 20%, as one liter was around 1 CHF at the time.
The extra income is used for road maintenance.

Greetings from Switzerland!

Er,......"WOW!!"...? I'm sure all the UK regulars would LOVE those
prices (in fact I visited Portland in summertime and really enjoyed
those gas prices myself!).

We're currently about $1.14 per LITRE in the cities, and if you go up
to the very north of Scotland (where they have you over a barrel - you
pay or you walk tens of miles through the mountains to the next
station) you'll pay about $1.42 per LITRE - way over $5 per gallon.

As far as I remember the most expensive petrol (gas) I have seen is in
Iceland, although Norway and Sweden seemed pretty expensive too. Any
Icelandic readers around able to confirm your prices these days?

Cheers!
John

Oh my!
Swedish prices are about $1.00 per... LITRE!!!
And there are, what, 4,5 litres to a gallon?

Most of the price is taxes/VAT of course.

Well, if it meant paying 10 cents less per gallon, you would probably
get out in the cold and rain... :)

Depends on where you're from. There are 3.8 litres in a US gallon,
though here in the UK we get a better deal, with 4.54 litres to our
gallon. 8)

As for the price of petrol/gas/whatever, I can't say that I know, 'cos I
don't have a car, so I don't worry about such matters. But I think it's
about 60p per litre (that's about $1), most of which is tax...

Paid $1.79 for a half-gallon the other day (nashville, Tn).

For milk that is (2%).

Why the specific interest in gasoline, as opposed to other commodities?  We
don't remark on how different bread prices are in different parts of the
country . . .

Or perhaps mangoes?

hmmm....

In Germany, the prices are around $3.40 per US gallon (or 1.50 DM per
Liter).
The fuel taxes were raised by the former (conservative and claiming to
be automobile-friendly) government to pay the bill for German
unification and other "black holes".

Despite earning billions from fuel and vehicle taxes, only a minor
part of the money is used for road maintenance and traffic safety.

My cousin Achim was killed 1994 in a motorcycle accident caused by a
extremely slippery road surface (when wet, only a grip factor of 0.15
remained, which compares to ice!) which was "repaired" 3 years earlier
with tar.
Since then, the courts and state attorneys are delaying the law suit
with ridicolous excuses (they claim can't interview a police man
because he's "busy").
