OT Poll: What are gas prices in your area?

by Galle » Sat, 28 Nov 1998 04:00:00

I've been lucky living here in Greenville, SC for the last ten years, (if
you can put up with the "BOJO's").  We have some of the lowest, if not the
lowest gasoline prices in the country.  I have a hard time remembering when
it was over $1.00!
Gas is currently 76 cents in many locations.  A few months ago, I paid 75
cents in Spartanburg.
How low can these prices possibly go?
What do y'all pay for regular old unleaded gas, and what part of the country
is it?

About $.85 for regular here, and the premium that I have to use is around
$1.05 to $1.09 depending on how close to the interstate it is, and how far
away from other competing stores <G>
These prices are the lowest I've seen in about four years.

Here in Cupertino, Calif., 87 octane is going for about $1.10 per
gallon.  Last Friday when I rode up to Sacramento, I was surprised
to find that when I refueled in Benicia, the gas was $1.75 per gallon.
I gave 'em $2 thinking that would be more than my scooter would
take, for I was at about a quarter tank but would need to fill up
to make it to Sacramento, yet was shocked to see that I'd hit $2
on the pump before getting near full.  That is when I noticed their
price.  Hoil!  You'd think a place where the damn refineries actually
are might be cheaper, but I guess they gouge since that station is
the ONLY station for miles'n'miles and they know they're gonna get
a lot of folks running out of gas there along that more desolate part
of Interstate 680.  That gas station also is the only gas station
I've ever seen that's also a TCBY and a Carl's Jr. all rolled into
one.

You can't get higher than 92 octane in California unless you buy
at a race track.  Not sure why that is.  I see in a lot of ads
that other places commonly see 93 octane (and higher I suppose,
but I see a lot of 93).

I live in Western Massachusetts and regular at the ultra cheapo stations
hovers around 1.02 and sometimes goes down to about .99.  I use 93 octane
premium in my Neon ACR and pay anywhere from 1.21~1.27 per gallon for it.
We have a lot of taxes up here.

Not every one who lives in the south is a redneck!  I had the misfortune of
growing up in freakin' North Dakota.  I make fun of rednecks all the time.

Up here in BC, Canada, 87 octane is at 53.7 cents(CDN)/litre.  How that
translates into $US/gallon I'll leave up to you. :)

Jeez...I've gotta move. After reading a few of the responses to this thread I
started looking around at fuel prices here in Los Angeles while driving around
today. The least expensive was $1.11 for regular at an ARCO station , generally
the cheapest gas around unless you buy that watered down ***the independant
dealers are selling. The most expensive self-serve premium was $1.53 at a
Chevron dealer in a high-zoot neighborhood.

The most expensive tank of gas I ever purchased was $60.00 US to fill up my BMW
while driving through the Swiss Alps on Easter Sunday, they were the only game
in town and knew they had us by the short hairs.

WOW!!
In Portland Oregon, at least by my home, around $1.50 for premium.  around
$1.25 for regular unleaded.    Although I don't pay much attention to gas
prices, since I have to get it no matter what price it is.  Oh ya Oregon
does not have self serve, and I love it! hehe  Who wants to get out of the
car when it's cold and raining. hehe

Roughly 85 cents per litre for premium (not gallon!) and about 75 cents for
regular in Sydney, Australia.

The gasoline prices don't vary much throughout the country, no more than a
few cents per litre.  Trivia fact: the Swiss have held several national
referendums to decide whether they would voluntarily pay *more* for their
petrol.  They have always voted yes.  Of course, if you saw the quality of
their roads, even the little secondary mountain roads, you would
understand.  They are superb.

Petrol was appriximately $3.15 per US gallon in the town I was living in
(Davos, in the eastern Alps).  Enjoy your V8s.
