I need a new soundcard and in the future al cards will be PCI so I
thought of buying the SB 128 pci...

Now I heard that this card will give all kinds of trouble...including the
sounds in  gpl....(I'm a big fan of this game)

-Is there anyone here that tried this card?

-Can anyone suggest me another (pci)card?

I have one at it works fine but I have not downloaded the latest drivers
which I've heard bad things about regarding GPL but nothing else.
Otherwise, the card has worked on everything, including my million games.
You should take your time and read comp.sys.ibm.pc.soundcard.games, and all
of the games pages hardware sections, and hardware pages also.  I would
suggest off hand to get the SB Live Value edition for $99 or so, but the
above mentioned newsgroup will be your best source of exciting info
regarding soundcards.  Put your question there and see what happens!

I HAVE problems, but only in GPL (distortion, pops and clicks)... ;^(
Even moving the card one slot away from my Voodoo2s didn't change that.

It works great in ALL other games (Unreal, Q2, etc), esp. with the 4
speaker setup.

Nevertheless I will hopefully get my SB Live! this week... ;^)

Great card if you need an on-board amplifier (for real speakers).  It has 6W
as opposed to the traditional 4W or nothing on the SB Live! series.  If you
use amplified speakers, then ignore this point.

Compatibility has been good (it uses Ensoniq soundscape for DOS, though, not
SoundBlaster) so far.  The original drivers caused a problem with my F1RS
(sound slowly disappearing over the course of a few laps) that did not exist
with my AWE64.  The new drivers fix F1RS but cause huge problems with GPL.
The new drivers took months to emerge and people were literally screaming at
Creative Labs to wake up and support this card (all of their efforts seem to
be aimed at the SB Live! these days).  I am not confident that either CL or
Papyrus will fix the problems in GPL soon (a new driver or a patch from
Papy)...most likely they will each point to the other as the problem.

I can only say that with the new drivers, GPL seemed to be the only "broken"
program, but I didn't do extensive testing since I needed to return to the
original drivers to use GPL!!

Sound quality is decent...quite good considering the price of the card.
