EB in Birmingham had a few copies at a fiver a week or so ago, but they
were rearranging things (again), so...

so basically it is ok to post warez links for GP1 but not for GPL or N4 or
F1 2001 ?

Maybe "old" warez don't count?

Anyway, I still say if he's using anything resembling a current laptop, he
should go buy GP2 and forget about GP1.  It will run on anything above a
P166 and be a lot more fun.

Yeah you're probably right...

Now let's start the fun....GPL is from 1997-1998 so i can put it on download
on my FTP server ? For those of you who don't have it and can't find it
because it's getting harder and harder to get, I have French and UK version
and I can provide CloneCd images.

Let's see how hard they are going to bang me, ha ha ha

Okay, let's look at the situation here a little.  Tell me a shop where you
still can buy World Circuit.  Most of the people in the *** community
consider morally legal to pass out any kind of software pre-Windows95,
unless it is still being sold in stores.

I think there's a difference between really old software that is
impossible to find in the stores anymore and software that is still
being sold.

Also that's the category that the Underdogs are basing 'abandonwarez'
on. If it's not being sold anymore, they put it on their site, if it
can be bought they puts links to places that sell it on their site
(even online order companies).

But I agree, it's a fine thread to decide what is Abandonwarez and
what is not. But it's nice to see those golden oldies are being kept
alive thanks to sites as the Underdogs. Oldies from an age where
gameplay was more important than fancy graphics.. sigh..

I wonder what is the legal value of this in front of a coyright specialized
attorney...

I'm not trying to sell or promote anything here, i'd just like to have SOME
(and not you specifically you francois) realize how hypocritical their
attitude towards warez is...

I don't.

You don;t see the difference between games that are not being sold
anymore and games that still are being sold?

and that's not all.  they're not hiding in any way, and they do remove
titles on request of the developer/publisher.

illegal?  clearly.

immoral?  don't think so.

I was being sarcastic, of course.   The letter of copyright law is something
like 50 years (I read this once during my P.Eng. exams and promptly forgot
it).  However, if you're not selling that copy of GP1, and it's not
available in a shop, it would take a pretty determined copyright lawyer to
come after you!  :-)

The funny thing is that Microprose (or someone) still puts GP1 onto
ultra-budget CDs.  5 bucks for about a dozen games for the last one I saw.
I guess you get what you pay for...

Point taken, but then again . . . I plead the fifth!

It is not like this site is hiding away in some area with just an IP
address and all those pop-up links that drive you nuts, oh wait, I
don't know what I am talking about, as I have never been to a warez
site :-O

Then again in reading the FAQ, one of the questions is about the
legality of the site and well . . . I guess I should have read this
prior to posting.

I d/l the game and looked at it and chuckled and then thought, "I
should try this at home" then I remembered that my Act Labs setup will
not work under DOS and well I really don't think it is going to be
that much different than the GP3 I already own, so I removed it.

I really cannot see too many people keeping this software on their
computer and playing it, but weirder things have happened.

So officially -- I am sorry, to all, for posting this link!
