Does GP2 have silly protection as GP1

Hi all,

Like most, I eagerly await GP2 in the UK. In anticipation, I broke out
my old G-Force yoke box which came with a free copy of GP1. It was OK,
but not up to icr2 IMHO.

What I really hated was the ludicrous requirement to type in various
words from the manual. This is pretty stupid as the manual is not too
big to photocopy. It is even more ridiculous as they give a
single-sheet crib sheet. This strikes me as both ridiculous and
irritating. Does anyone know if GP2 also requires this?

Here's the controversial question. If it does, does anyone know of
sites likely to provide unprotected versions. I _will_ buy a copy - I
want CD and manual but I do not want to go through this silly
performance every time. Before anyone flames - _all_ my software is
registered, including Agent, winzip etc. This is why I wouldn't know
where to look for a usable copy.

Regards.

Hi!

The only protection in GP2 is that the CD hat to be in the drive.
That's all.

Thanks Mikey. I usually keep Encarta in all the time so that suck just
a little bit but not so much as to make me want to look for a cracked
copy (if that's the correct expression). I can live with this - roll
on Friday, assuming my T2 replacement pedal spring arrives in time :-(

There is no protection in GP2. All you need
is the CD in your CD-Drive.

It's Great! I love this Game!

From what i think, the floppy protection was only to add more
protection to the betas so that one could not run the game if he
got his hand on an illegal beta...

just my 2 cents

Happy to tell you that GP2 is not manual protected.  The only
protection is that you have to have the original CD in the machine for
the game to work.  But thats not a problem, is it??

I'm not too crazy about that.  As we all know, CD-rom drivers take up precious
memory that could be better used running the program... :(

P.S. - GPM asks for the CD-ROM when it starts up also, but if I ignore
the request, it will play anyway, just without the sound... Can anyone
comment on F1GP2?

Thanks again,

Can anyone confirm this? I run ICR2 and Nascar on a laptop ( yeah, I
know, but I need it for work and don't have the budget for a home
computer... ). I installed ICR2 and Nascar using a laplink to my work PC
- I don't have a CD-ROM for the laptop. Can anyone tell me if I'm out of
luck?

Don't think 20kb or so would make much of a difference in 8MB ( or
32MB in my case :-> )

Confirmed. GP2 wants the CD.

When fully installed to the HDD, when you start the game if the CD isn't
in the drive, then sorry....but.. etc...

It's not only for protection. The CD has half a GIG on it. The sound files
(.WAV) alone eat more than 200 MB !!
