F1-2002 GT Mod - Install Error

by Tom Pabs » Fri, 22 Feb 2002 15:07:27

I keep getting, "Error Creating Directory" message instantly after clicking
"Install" button.  Nothing seems to work via trying to install from
different source directories, from the zip file directly (without extracting
the files first), etc.  What am I doing wrong?  I'm going to try installing
to a fresh install of F1-2001 (and fresh patch).

Are you sure you are giving the installer the proper .exe, config.ini, and
player info?

You've just explained your own problem. Tried the same myself using
XP. You need to extract the files to a temp directory and install
from there, not from within the zip.

Cheers,
Rod.

Doh. It's late. Glazed over the fact you tried that.

As DGF suggested, make sure you're selecting the right dirs when
prompted. Once I extracted them all to it's own temp dir and hit
the right directories it prompted, all went well... and I had
the same error messages you were experiencing.

Cheers,
Rod.

This wasn't really clear to me when I installed the 2.1 patch for the MOD. I
was somewhat confused, because there's also a *.ini and *.plr for the MOD
itself. It would make sense to point to *these* files, but it seems you have
to point to the original (F1 2001) files.

Is GTmod expected to work with F1 2002 to be released in March?

F1-2002 GT Mod - Install Error

by Tom Pabs » Sat, 23 Feb 2002 00:45:25

Thanks guys.....I've discovered the V2.1 GTmod patch is simply a patch?  The
file size would indicate so.  So...I tried installing the much larger V2.0
GTmod "patch" and then the v2.1 GTmod patch......it all installed but when
executing the F1-2002 GTmod executable....all I get is the original F1-2001
game running.  Could it be because the F1-2001 exe I'm using is the "no cd"
version?

No offense to you guys who created this great sim add-on (going by
everyone's praise....I'm sure it will be terrific when I can manage to get
it installed)....but going to Simbin and trying accomplish all this is a bit
of a "cluster-f" in my opinion.  Why force someone to a "download forum"
that requires registration just to read?  The mods are not readily found
without sorting through "posts"....cluttered with "Great job, thanks" posts
and other gibberish.  There's not even a reasonably concise
"troubleshooting" section.  There's just way too many hoops to jump through
for the average online sim racer.....but hey, I'm a dummy sometimes....so
maybe its just me.  It also looks to me that the "readmefirst" files for
both the full blown mod (about 45 mb) and the v2.1 patch (3.5 mb) are
exactly the same....leading one to believe the v2.1 is the latest and all
that must be installed?  You guys may have very good reasons for all this
having be this way......so I'll assume that's it and leave it at that.  But,
hope you can clean all this up soon.....make it a little less tedious to
install your great product.

Still trying to install this mod........

F1-2002 GT Mod - Install Error

Make sure F12001 is patched, then install the large GT mod "patch". When the
installer asks for the .exe., give it your no-cd .exe, your F12001
config.ini, and your F12001 player file. After that, install the smaller GT
mod patch (v2.1 3.5 megs), again giving the installer the no-cd .exe, F12001
config.ini, and player file.

If that's what you did, then I'm not sure why it isn't working.

F1-2002 GT Mod - Install Error

by istof » Sat, 23 Feb 2002 05:37:31

hi tom.

my advice is to check in the f1 2001 folder (use windows explorer or
something similar ) for a file called
"F1 2001 - FIAGT V2.lnk"

Double click it and see.

The sequence i used to install was.

F1 2001 Original
1.074 Beta Patch
GT Mod V2
GT Mod V2.1

Worked great for me.

As for the download links.  I'm glad that they released it as speedily
as they did and I am willing to put up with a few pages just to get
the goods.  As time permits, I'm sure we'll see other download
locations and more professional setup routines.  If it meant waiting
another few days to get an easier install / download scenario, then I
know which choice I prefer.

Regards all,
istoff

F1-2002 GT Mod - Install Error

by Tom Pabs » Mon, 25 Feb 2002 02:13:19

Oooops...sorry for not getting back to you guys sooner on this thread.
Thank you.....all the info you guys provided did help and I was able to get
the "mod" installed (to a fresh install of F1-2001).  I ended up having to
take a short trip...and didn't get much seat time in the mod.  I ran the
Viper for about two dozen laps at Silverstone, however.  I'm not sure I have
the mod installed correctly though.  The Porsche's all have the F1 engine
sounds, the track graphics are completely washed out (as though "fog table"
is turned on way to high).....and the sounds are cracky.  Also....when the
mod loads it says, "version 2.0) and I don't see any reference to version
2.1 anywhere on the UI screens....how do I know the v2.1 is installed?

I can't comment on much......I don't think its working properly...and
limited seat time in the Viper.  So.....instead of listing what's
good.....let me list only what I can see so far that is not good (but please
don't take this as anything other than constructive criticism....I was quite
amazed at what you guys are trying to accomplish...have accomplished):

1.  Cockpits:  The FOV is "okay".....needs some adjusting (but I think we
can subjectively do that anyway...right?).  I have about 6 hours total time
(at PIR) in a Viper GT-R (earlier years)....and the car sounds and "physics"
feel pretty good (according to my memory at least...its been a few years).
But...the***pit graphics need big-time improvement....they are not
acceptable in my opinion.  I would be glad to help out with the***pit
graphics....if you guys want me too.  I realize there is probably some
limitations you face....that I'm not aware of.  Maybe there's some
acceptable work-arounds we could come up with?

2.  The track graphics are washed out...and pixilated....maybe this is a
faulty install?  I switched back to my original F1-2001 install with updated
track graphics...and they are perfect/normal.  I even tried dumping my track
files for Silverstone into the mod track.....it was still terrible....so its
not the video card/system settings at fault.

3. The engine sounds need refinement....but are not bad.

4.  The background F1 engine sounds (when in the track UI screen or sitting
in the garages) need to be changed to GT car engine sounds.....its a small
thing, but one that should be done IMHO..... to make it a complete package.

5.  The GTMod UI screens are a little too "gamey" for my tastes......they
need to be cleaned up and toned down...IMHO.

Let me repeat....I think what you guys accomplished is
remarkable....no......its "awesome!"  I'm only pointing out the negative
stuff that bugged me.....just in a few minutes of running the mod before I
had to leave town.  So....I want more seat time before giving you any
further feedback.  Any suggestions for the washed out track graphics?

Regards....

Tom

F1-2002 GT Mod - Install Error

by Ian Bel » Mon, 25 Feb 2002 05:15:37

Hi Tom. The mod doesn't change the track graphics at all. It uses the same
tracks from the same folders as F1-2001. I would suggest opening your
config.ini and your CONFIGFIAGTV2.ini.

Copy all the video related parameters from your Config.ini and paste them in
to the other.

The sounds in the Porsches is dealt with in the Download forum.
- Go to your SEASONFIAGTV2/Vehicles folder
- Rename the file 996sounds.sfx to 996GT3sounds.sfx
- Rename the file 996turbosounds.sfx to 996GT2sounds.sfx

You can make some sweet***pits, the problem arises when you come to look
at them in game. :-)

You won't get a reference to Version 2.1 in game, it'll still state Version
2. The way to ensure you have 2.1 working is to check the Setup screens.
They should be all new and cover two pages with additional options like toe
and rev limits.

All the best.

Ian
