V3 look ups in GPL Help!!!!

by Joachim Lueg-Althof » Mon, 22 Nov 1999 04:00:00

Hi all,

after about 30 min. in a GPL race it can happen from time to time, that
the screen locks up for UP TO 5SEC!! and the sound remains in permanent
high revs.
After that the game continues and usually I find myself crashed in the
next corner.
The PC has a V3-3000 card, latest drivers and DX7, but the problem was
already with DX6, 128MB RAM.
In the device manager I have a conflict message for the V3 card, which I
would translate from german like this:

MEMORY RANGE E4000000-E5FFFFFF USED BY: PCI-STANDARD-PCI/PCI-BRIDGE
MEMORY RANGE E8000000-E9FFFFFF USED BY: PCI-STANDARD-PCI/PCI-BRIDGE
E/A RANGE D000-DOFF USED BY: PCI-STANDARD-PCI/PCI-BRIDGE

I can disable the automatic setting of the card in the device manager
and can set the above values until the conflict message disappears, but
after a new start of windows I receive an error message at windows start
up that the graphic card cannot be detected, the screen is in default
VGA and all 3DFX features in the monitor menue disapeared.
Does anyone out there has an idea how to get rid of this *** problem?

What processor have you got?  There is a known issue with AMD chips, which
can be corrected by enabling 'CPU write' or 'K6 write' in the BIOS.  Perhaps
this is your problem?  There's an FAQ on www.3dfxgamers.com which has
details of this.

It is a PII 400 overclocked to 450MHz by softFSB.

Have you tried deleting and re-installing the V3?  Maybe it can re-find it with
values it likes...
