F1RS can anyone help with problems?

F1RS, has given me nothing but grief since I got it over 6 months ago.
Without going into ever problem I've had, I'll just list my current
problem.  I can get maybe 2 to 4 laps in (sometimes 1/2 lap) and I get
booted back to Win95 with a page fault error in F1voo.exe.
I have a Creative Labs 12meg V2 card (tried the original drivers, and
the gold drivers) Matrox Millennium 1 with 3.8 drivers, and a Diamond
Monster sound with the new 1.6 drivers.  (1.5 gave me the same
problem)    (also have the new 3D sound patch from Ubisoft, had the
same problem with the old sound patch)   have over 200 megs  free on
my windows drive, and 300 megs free on the drive F1RS is installed.
I have a iP233 mmx w/64 megs of ram.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Andy

I'm not to sure about this but try going back to the Matrox 3.7 drivers. I
seem to remember that was a cure for something, maybe your problem.

Tim,
I just upgraded to the 3.8 drivers, was running the 3.7 for awhile,
and had the same problem.    Thanks anyway.

Mike, I will give this a shot, but am doubtful.  F1RS is the only game
it does this on.  (of all the 3DFX games I have)  Still it is worth a
try.  For some reason I think it is sound related.  I also get some
really strange driving physics to.  Like the car will go nose up and
spin like wild, then I'll be dropped back on the track.  I have seen
AI cars lift off the track for no reason as well.  (usually just
before the game crashes)  Not overclocking my system at all, but will
be upgrading my system next week.  (case and all) So I'll wait till
then, do a fresh install of 95, add some extra cooling, and maybe get
F1RS to work.

F1RS can anyone help with problems?

by Kasparo » Fri, 24 Apr 1998 04:00:00

Andy,

I got the same exact problem.  The weird thing is that it ran great for
like 3 days straight and then it started crashing. So I uninstalled it and
deleted all references to it in the registry and it still crashed even after
I reinstalled it.  I can only race about 1 or 2 laps and then I get the
error message as well. But my error is associated with the WAVPWBVR.DLL
file.  I have tried all the other WAV dlls but none of them work at all.  It
sucks that they have no technical assistance for this game in their website
(Ubisoft that is). I emailed them anyway and they never got back to me.  I
feel ripped of and I am not happy about it.  This should be awesome but only
if it worked.  Someone needs their ass reamed over this one.

Keep me posted on how things go with your new system.  I too was thinking
about upgrading to a P2 system but I was gonna wait a few more months. I am
curious how yours is going to turn out.  Hope we find some answers here...or
somewhere.

Take care,

Kas

If you search for snd_cpa.ini and change the reference from wavx2 to wavpw
it should work.

Kas,
As the other post suggested try editing the ini file, but now that I
read this again, I have a feeling you already tried this. :(  (the 3D
patch should solve _this_ problem if you have a 3D sound card)
You can't even begin to guess how many problems I have had with this
sim.  It has never worked right since the day I got it.  (I live in
the US, and ordered the UK version)  Tech support has been no help
either.  My pleas on their message board went unanswered as well.
It is a GREAT sim when it works, but as it is now it is useless. :(
I was hoping it was some conflict with the older glide drivers left on
my system, but I don't think that is the case either. I refuse to give
up though. :-)

Thanks, will let you know.  I was going to wait and see what happened
with the BX boards, but decided to go with the LX  (Abit LX6/333)
combo for now.   P2 350/400 prices are out of my range anyway. :-)
Least I won't be testing a new chipset.  (although early reports have
been positive)    Should be here on Monday!

That 3D sound patch was only for one specific sound board. It
was not really for a 3D sound board with DirectSound 3D drivers.
Has this changed in the last 1.5 months? I would suggest running
without the sound patch and see if that helps.

Also, I have a Voodoo1 card and no problems (from day one in
Jan98). Are you overclocking your Voodoo2 chip? What params
do you have loaded in your autoexec.bat?

Not sure if that has changed.  I know for me, (I have a monster sound)
it solved a few problem.  I believe the readme file, stated with was
for a few 3D sound cards.

For me the game would not work with my old OR3D card in glide mode.
Well it worked, but I was missing part of the***pit art, D3D worked
ok, but with the 1.7 patch I lost the use of the pedals in D3D mode
only.  (also with the 1.8 patch)    With the V2 card the***pit art
is complete.  (which leads me to believe there was some defect with my
old card, and somehow only F1RS found it, others have reported this
problem as well)  I am not overclocking my V2, nor did I ever
overclock my V1 card.  No sst commands in my autoexec.bat file either.
I will try disabling SLI mode with the V2 card.  (I only have one
card) and have read that this has caused problems with some games.
(even thought SLI isn't detected anyway.  Still waiting on my upgrade
to come to. :(     Its sitting at UPS less about 20 miles away, and
they only come to this "rural" area once a week,    Should have paid
for FedX! :-)  I'm still holding hope that a reformat will solve the
problem.  New case has extra cooling as well, so maybe it is a heat
issue, but can't see how the card can get that hot in such a short
time.  It has to be something specific to my system though, since
others are not having a problem.

Thanks,
Andy
