Uhm, came here looking for comments on this but
no mention of it. Basically it allows you to convert 13
GPL tracks to run in N3 or NL (sorry, No Ring, but there
is Spa/Monza/Solitude).
I posted a few comments to a mailing list which
I've pasted below, followed by the readme :
BTW: get it from the US pits www.theuspits.com
PS. Thanks Dave

Well, I couldn't resist, took a short spurt around Soli in NL, looks
pretty good, only a few graphic anomolies. Also tried a lap of
Goodwood,
all was OK. Then did a 3 lap race against an 80% AI at Monza and
managed
a 1:45 in some old banger :) got up to 190 on the back straight which
is quite scary in these things. Quite a few graphic glitches on this
one,
especially when you are close to the AI cars (you can see through
them).

Phil,
Afriad not, at least not in this version. 13 Tracks in all, inc
most of the Papy 11 and Brands, Imola, ORing, Crystal Palace
& Goodwood, oh and Solitude :)
Works for Nascar Legends apartently, I don't have N3 (anyone know
where I can get one in UK), I should be working but may give Soli
a spin in NL later.

GPLTON.EXE
This WIN95,98,NT program will convert GPL tracks to N3 and NL.
The tracks which can be converted are:- Brands Hatch, Crystal Palace,
Goodwood, Imola, Kyalami, Monza, Mosport, Osterreichring,
Road Atlanta, Silverstone, Snetterton, Solitude, Spa, Watkins Glen and
Zandvoort. Other tracks that are not included will NOT work with
NASCAR racing at all.
To convert make sure you have correctly set the directories for
N3/NL and GPL. You should be entering the application directories
(e.g c:\sierra\nascar3 and c:\sierra\gpl and NOT the track
directories).
If the GPL directory is correctly set a list of tracks available to
convert
will appear in the list box. Select from the list box and hit the
convert
button. You should get an error message if the incorrect Nascar
directory
has been set or you run out of disk space.
New entries will be added to the file all.cal
These tracks have heavy memory demands. In the cases of Goodwood, Spa,
Snetterton and Solitude you may get slow frame rates. The only
solution to
this is to download less detailed versions of these tracks.
NOTE: Many computers will not run some of the more detailed tracks,
or it
will crash when the track is attempted to be run. There is nothing
that
can be done about this other than upgrade your computer memory and
graphics
card.
Special Note on Snetterton: The GPL version of Snetterton is not
packed
into a .dat, therefore the converter will not find it. The solution
is
to pack all the pertinent files into a .dat file (use any of the
packing
programs found at The Pits in the Stockcar editors section) and then
the
converter will work.
There are some problems at the edges of the tracks on the wide bends.
By
the time you hit the fence you may be 'under' the grass (but not in
arcade view).
You will notice some the pit lanes are long this is to ensure a large
field
of opponents.
Happy racing!
