I've overclocked mine to 178 since I've had it.  I would not call it extreme
improvements, unless 1-2 fps is extreme.  I only overclock to recoup the
frame lost by running at the high quality settings of the V3 drivers.

I found a great tool to overclock this baby, it's called V3Tweaker. With my
Voodoo 3 3000 o/c to 172MHz, I get 'extreme' improvements in N3, F1 2000, FS
2000, RC 2000 and other games. System is stable for 3 days now, not a single
lockup. Try it! But note: overclocking can damage your system, so don't push
it too far. AND MOST IMPORTANT: add a fan to the Voodoo (old 486 CPU
cooler). It's easy to do, and the result is astounding!

But isn't a V3-3000 default clocked at 166?  I can't imagine an extra 3.6% on
the clock resulting in an "extreme" anything.  FWIW, I'm running my V3-2000
(143 default) at 166.

Hi,

yep been o/c my V3 2000 PCI from 143MHz to 163MHz no additional cooling no
probs. If you have additional cooling go for 188MHz.

But, you take your chances. My V3 3000 does not like to be
overclocked, and I even have a cooling fan for it.

I've gotten my V3 3000 up to 183. At 184 it locks up. I've been running
it this way since it came out with no problems.

I concur. I have been running my V2000 AGP at 166MHz for six months now
(using the V3Tweaker), with no problems at all. This does show an
improvement over the standard 143MHz. Cooling is fine, but I moved all the
PCI cards down one slot just to give it a little more air space, and the
case is nice and big as well.

Is there any reason to think that a newer V3-2000 should not be able to clock
as fast as a 3000?  Do they use a different heat sink (if I recall that is the
case)?  A year+ into the run, do they still have to hand-pick the faster ones,
or do they use a different assembly line?  Or is it all marketting?  Typically
in the past, at least with Intel, the yields get better with time and there is
less and less difference between slow-clocked and fast-clocked CPU's.  Intel
controls that with clock-locking.

V3 2000 here.
Overclocked to 166, but no improvement in fps.

I saw an improvement in my V3000 overclocked to 176, albeit slight, running
on the same processor.

It depends on the game. In Quake3 1024x768 you're very likely to see
improvements.
