N4 2002 Install Problems

by SKnarr4 » Mon, 18 Feb 2002 12:53:43

Pulling my hair out trying to get N4 2002 to run.....and I don't have much
left to pull.

Win98SE
AMD 1600
512 Ram
GF3 TI 500 (21.83 drivers) or GF2 Ultra
Open GL or D3D
DX 8.1
All updates done to OS & chipset drivers

Nothing seems to get me going, it locks up after calibration or shortly
there after.

Any suggestions?

I have done everything but reinstall the OS.

ALL other sims/games play fine.

Frustrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What kind of cdrom drive do you have?
is it a cdrom burner?

this may sound odd, but try disabling the 3dsound for your card.  Either
in the system control panel or even in N2 2002 itself...(if you can get that
far...)
Make sure your 52x is fully up to speed before cliking any 'ok' box,
sometimes these faster drives take a few moments to spin up.

N4 2002 Install Problems

Got it, WooooooHoooo!!!!

I run Daemon tools, virtual CD. It appears when my install was trying to
verify during the initial start-up it couldn't find the CD amongst the real
CD drives and the virtual ones.

I removed Daemon tools and my problems disappeared. I looked in the registry
to try and point it to the correct drive, but there was no entry for what
drive it was installed from. Must be some kind of CD check/verify. You would
of thought it would say "please install the N4 2002 CD" rather than just
lock up, but I guess that's too easy for papy/sierra. What did I expect, a
working sim for $50.00????

Oh well, got it working. Just tinkering now to get the sounds and framerates
where I want them.

Thanks,

Scott

I think it's the copy protection (when will then learn?) having a problem
with your hardware.

I've found that NR2002 will lock up, guaranteed, if trying to use the ISO
Image I made of the original CD and DaemonTools.  This leads me to believe
that the Copy Protection has been changed and is more invasive than ever.

Same here.  I had to remove Daemon Tools as well.

They have changed something in the Copy Protection and it's tripping things
up :(

it's just another salvo in the war between the publishers and the
crackers....unfortunately, we the users are merely collateral damage caught
in the crossfires...
(how's that for trite, timely, cliched, commentary???)
