DDR vs. PC133 in N4/2002

Does using DDR RAM instead of SDRAM make a big difference in speed in
N4/Nascar 2002? I know it makes a difference in benchmarks but I don't play
benchmarks and I am more interested in real world *** performance with
TODAYS games.

Athlon XP1600+. I went with a board that uses a VIA KT133A so that I could
use my PC133 and save about $160 (512mb stick DDR). I am beginning to wonder
if I should have just went with DDR memory now? I used to play at 800x600
with no FSAA and now I play at 1024x768 with no FSAA. The game looks a
little better, but not a whole lot. I play online only (mostly N4 and GPL).
I have noticed that my framerate just sits at 37fps. It doesn't go any
higher or lower. GPL is the other game I play and it played fast before but
some of the newer add-on tracks would chop out slightly due to the high res
textures. Now GPL stays at 36fps all the time!

My system:

MSI K7T Turbo2
Athlon XP1600+
256MB Micron PC133 (2-2-2)
Voodoo 5500 AGP
SB Live! Value

Thanks!

I'm sure DDR helps but I doubt its worth buying another Mobo and new ram.
You'd probably get a better increase from a faster CPU, and spend less.
Dumping the V5 would be a big step up for NR2002. As far as the 37 fps goes
it sounds like you have Vsync turned on. Not sure how to disable it with a
Voodoo card since I haven't had one for years.

As Maddawg said, your Vid card is holding you back, I'm sticking with my
V5's for the time being as I'm not playing any games that are Gfx
intensive at the moment, but I know that I'll need to replace my V5's
soon, I won't be buying an nVidia based card though :-)

Beers and cheers

DDR vs. PC133 in N4/2002

I had to build another computer after a mobo died several weeks ago, a
friend had a Biostar DDR mobo that he gave me so I built up another system
around it and installed 512MB of DDR (PC2100) RAM, my old system had 512MB
of SDRAM (PC133) and to be honest with you, if the DDR has made a difference
in real world performance of NR2002, I can't notice it. Rest of the system
is same hardware down to the power supply since only the IDE quit working on
my old mobo...this was under both Win98SE and WinXP Pro. It still smokes in
Win98SE and is a little slower in WinXP Pro (as so far as FPS goes) using
21.83 drivers for both OSs on a plain GF 3 (no Ti, no MX, plain old GF 3).
DDR may benchmark better, but from my experience would not be worth an
upgrade to it.
