wrong again Charles, in F1 now, the race that people want to win are either
Italy or Belgium. Back in the 1960's, they all want to tame the Nurburgring
monster

Monaco meant a lot to the people in Monaco of course, but if you do a survey
elsewhere or just between the drivers, they will tell you the race they want
to win is Monza

Just a thought. But recreating a race track that was actually city
streets in the condition it was in over 30 years ago would be a task of
extrem difficulty. I read someware that the streets have changed so much
that racers who actually raced there at theat time dont even recognize
most of the course. And working from old city plans and diagrams wont
reveal any of the minor details witch destinguished it. At the beast the
can create a general aproximation but there is no longer any way to know
how close you got to the real thing.

But all that aside, I also feel that it should be included in any sim
or arcade racer, that trys to represent that time. It was both loved and
hated by the racers of the day. but it cant be denied that it is
legendary. Good track or bad, it is still one of the most revered tracks
of all time.

Monaco is still an F1 track today, and hence will most likely be
covered under the FIA license.

I can assure you, Mr. Mak, that in this era of non-sentimentality, when the
directors and entrepreneurs associated with F1 are more interested in all that
glisters rather than all that is of historical interest, if it weren't for the
vast amount of money that the Monagesque event brings in, its place would have
been taken away years ago.

What it (the event) represents to the "F1 community" is stuff all.  It may be a
sentimental favourite of the so-called beautiful people who inhabit the
principality for the race week and it may be a favourite of television viewers
but it is NOT a favourite of the teams.

Excuse my Antipodean ignorance, but isn't the term "trolling", when used
herein, the same as the fishing term....as in "trolling a line" and
hoping that something bites?

All that goes for any race track though, they've all been through
significant variations with corners being made wider, tighter, bumps
being evened out, surface material being changed, etc. There may not even
be accurate plans of the old track layouts.

There is a lot of vintage footage of Monaco available though, indeed
rather more so probably than for any other track except maybe Indy. So
recreating the 'feel' isn't likely to be a problem.

If Monaco doesn't make it into the final game then it will be due to
intractable licensing difficulties. Nothing else.

Cheers,
Richard

The "cache" of Monaco? I was unaware of any SRAM fabs in the
principality. Heck I'm not doing my job properly!

Monaco represents very little to the F1 community, and even the greats
of Monaco like Senna, Prost and Hill (snr) would far rather have raced
somewhere more entertaining. Monaco does of course have a strong
attraction and that is with the fans and "the beautiful people". The
attraction to a worldwide audience, promoters and sponsors of having a
race there and being invited is inestimable, and that is the reason it
has satyed on the calendar so long. Nothing to do with the track or
the driver's love of it.

I hope it's in there, as racing a '67 GP car around Monaco would be
awesome, but given the choice of Monaco v's Spa, or perhaps Monaco v's
Nurburgring and I'd forget Monaco.

Cheers!

I didn't say it would be easy or perfect ;-) But I've seen a lot of
footage from before the swimming pool complex was introduced and the
'Nouveau' chicane was introduced and there are plenty of camera angles to
choose from for most bits of track. So I really don't see why the 1967
Monaco should be any harder to reproduce than the 67 Silverston, 67 Glen
or any of the other tracks. And if there are some minor flaws it's fgoing
to be damn difficult to spot them <g>

I suspect that it will be more to do with using the name 'Monaco Grand
Prix' or similar than the track layout or views of buildings that are
effectively in the public domain. Also even if Papy could legally get
away with something they might not want to do so if it would annoy any
existing or future license holders. Sad, though :(

Cheers,
Richard

<chuckle> Monaco doesn't seem to have much in the way of sand. Perhaps
they'd be interested in your high quality processed variety? They could
certainly afford it ;-)

La Rascasse is pretty different actually. In 1967 it was a simple
hairpin, whereas nowadays it is a slow three corner complex. The
swimming pool is the main addition though, and everything else should
be exactly the same AFAI recall from "Grand Prix".

Hmm, most of the time Papyrus track modeling is made from photos, and in-car
video took from actual SimRacers. I can recall AFAIK Brian Tate who was in
charge of taking pictures of some BGN track (Hickory and/or Myrtle Beach).

But I don't remember 1 track that was from a Papyrus title who was
criticized.  Sure some of them (especially early titles) weren't very
realistic.  Well, it was in relation with their old game engine.
Non-straight pits on oval, walls where they shouldn't be (to prevent
cheating and stuff).

I think you are probably talking about Cart:PR, by Microsoft,  who has a
poor (very poor) Cleveland track.

Don't you think Papy should be crucified anyway?
