Nascar Heat brake LWFF pedal calibration problem...help please

by Bruce Mill » Wed, 01 May 2002 21:03:47

I just bought Heat (great game!) a few days ago and I am having a
problem with brake pedal calibration.  I am using WIN98 and a Logi FF
(original Red model) the wheel and pedals are recognized, but the
range of the brake pedal between 0-100% braking is extremely short.  I
have tried adjusting the dead zone and the overshoot and I have also
tried recalibrating in WIN with no help. When I press the brake pedal
it goes from 0 to 100% braking in about 1/2 inch of pedal travel,
making the brakes WAY too sensitive.  The gas pedal works properly.
Any ideas?

My solution was to use dxtweek2 and double the range for the pedals.  so
in dxtweek the #'s I use are:  low: 0,  center: 254,  upper: 508.  This
smooths out the pedals quite a-bit.  Now if you could tell ME how to dial
out the tiny bit of deadzone my LWFF has even when everything is set to
zero....I'd appreciate it   :)

Dave -

I'd bet there is slack between the pot shaft, the plastic connecting collar
and/or the steering shaft.  It's a basic pricepoint/tolerance issue, and
both Logitech wheels I've had suffered from it.  The only solution is to
take it apart and modify the collar where the pot and steerer plug into it
to take up the slack.  It's a pretty easy job, and there are still details
on doing it in the "mods" section of my ancient LWF review at:
