I read somewhere that all it does is to cure an incompatibility with
some video cards for when the screen fades in and fades out.  I don't
think it's for performance tweaking.

What is the advantages/disadvatages to selecting the palette via bios?
Is it using video card memory if it's not doing it via bios?  Could this
be why some people with 1mb memory on their video cards are showing
lower numbers than similar cards with 2mb?

The manual states that this is for people who's fades are not working
properly.
