Just upgraded my Matrox bios to 2.3 and now when I'm in GP2 my pc speaker
crackles and pops like crazy throughout the whole game, then when I exit
GP2 the noise stops. I happened to have bios 2.2 zipped on my drive and
reinstalled that and the problem went away. Anyone else notice this?

I had exactly the same symptoms, but I had just upgraded to ppro and
lost my soundcard, so I put the problems down to this. I'll try
reverting back to 2.2 sometime & see what happens.

Yes i noticed this too,but if you upgrade to bios 2.4 which has just
been released there is no problem.

Yep,  exactly the same thing happened to me.  I did suspect the bios
upgrade but I couldn't check because I didn't have the old one to
re-install.   I'm glad you posted as it was doing my head in.

Yep,  just got 2.4 myself and it seems to have cured the problem  :-)
