Saw the note on this newsgroup about Matrox BIOS 1.3 fixing the GP2
problem. Downloaded it, unzipped it, ran install.exe - BUT GP2 screen
mode switch problem still exists, and screen properties report I am
still on BIOS 1.2! Can anyone help?

The install program installs a batch file call Updbios in the directory
mga\setup. Run this from DOS and it updates this BIOS.

I have upgraded to BIOS 1.3 and the video lockups have gone, but I get a
background clicking noise from the internal speaker. Has anybody else found
this ?

Ive discouvered the same clicking sound after installing the new bios, the
glad news is that the gp2 seems to work now.It only clicks on my computer
when I load GP2 otherwise its like normal but faster under Win95.

After you run INSTALL, look for UPDBIOS.BAT.
Run this batch file, but i think it is better to be in pure DOS mode
for this!

When you have unzipped the package (appx 430K in size), there is a (batch
file, maybe?) called updbios.xxx.  This is the program that actually goes out
and erases the BIOS, and re-programs it.  I believe that "install" is just for
the setting up the MGA directory and the MGAMON utility.  Make sure if you are
using Win95 that you do a clean boot first (F8 at power-on, then command
prompt only).

Yes but have you run the little program which updates the bios? You
need to do this after installing the files you got from download.Open
a dos window, go to the MGA/SetUp directory and type 'updbios'. (I
think thats right: check the readme - it tells you what to do). BTW
the new bios seems to work with GP2, for me anyway :-)
Cheers,
Andrew

Yeah, I get clicks and beeps from the computer now. I had GP2 on
minimal install, which worked fine, but immediately after installing
the new bios my CD rom started making wierd noises. No other game did
this, and the problem went away after a full install of the game.
Also, I get beeps when playing Privateer 2. Cant wait for 1.4
Cheers,
Andrew

If one can't kill the disease, at least get rid of the symptoms. Take
out the speaker!

Seriously, I experienced the same video lockup's. With the 1.3 bios
they're gone. Card seems a little slower in windows though.
As usual, everything that works in DOS makes things worse in WIN95
