Sierra Forum Question on N2000/N3

by Scott B. Huste » Sat, 29 May 1999 04:00:00

Just for review... this is what is posted on the Sierra Forum regarding
N2000/N3.  N3 is NOT dead.  It will be released next year.
---------

What are the features of the new Papyrus NASCAR Racing sim?

As this sim has been formerly known as N2000, NASCAR 2000 was actually
only a working title to distinguish it from the development project
known as NASCAR 3. We still have not finally decided what this title
will be called. The NASCAR title shipping this fall may still be called
NASCAR 3, but it will not contain the physics engine based on GPL. At
this time, we will  refer to this sim as Papyrus NASCAR Racing
(PNR).  It is scheduled to be released Fall 99' along with NASCAR
Legends, which is a sim based on the 1970 NASCAR season.  Very little
information is available on it right now, expect it to be here at the
forum as soon as it is available.  Upon release of PNR, the next NASCAR
sim, based on the GPL engine, will follow in the coming year.

When it comes to new features, PNR is full of them.  It will be based on
the N99 physics engine, but it has been totally gutted and remodeled.
As far as graphics are concerned, this year's "Papyrus NASCAR Racing"
(PNR) will support 3dfx(Glide), Direct3D, and software modes. There will
be no native Rendition support. A
3D card is not required, but most of the new graphics options won't be
supported without one. Graphic resolutions include 1024x768, 800x600,
and 640x480. Only adding to the realism, the smoke and dirt effects will
be greatly enhanced for 3D hardware. It will have transparency and it
will hang in the air for the "wall of
smoke" effect with a big wreck.   You can see screenshots of the new
smoke effects at www.papy.com.

The sound engine has also been entirely reworked, and every sound
element is new. The sound engine will support DirectSound3D and A3D 2.0.
The new car engine samples are extremely impressive.  Included is both a
spotter and a crew chief communicating with you via your cars radio.

Upon popular demand, Papyrus has implemented Force Feedback support in
PNR.

Also new for PNR, will be the capability of a 43 car field unlike the
default 39 in N2/N99.  Multiplayer support has also been updated,
allowing multiplayer in Windows versions of the game and free internet
multiplayer via a matching server, as well as LAN based TCP/IP and IPX
will be supported.

Included in this PNR will be the Cup series cars and drivers and the
Grand National series cars and drivers
