N3 ? about Talladega camber adjustment

by Gerald Moor » Fri, 14 Jul 2000 04:00:00

I was fooling around with the car setup at Talladega.  After examining
my tire temps, it seems that the camber is WAY out of whack using the
default "ACE" setup.  I adjusted the camber so that tire temps are even
across the tire, but my lap times did not signifigantly improve.  I
haven't been driving long, so I wonder if that is only because I am not
as super smooth driving my line as I would like?

I would expect the tire wear to be signifigantly reduced, but didn't
really test this out.  If that is indeed the case, I would expect
better lap times on average over a long green flag run.

Anybody with more experience care to comment?

My qual setup has completely different camber than my long race setup.

 Qual Setup                                    Race Setup
LF           RF                              LF               RF
.70          -2.70                          -.30            -2.20

Do not pay attention to the tire temps that much in N3 because it is not
modeled correctly at all and has hardly anything to do with tire wear into
the game. A RF or RR tire running at 190 * will wear the same as a tire with
a temp of 230*. The tire wear in the game is pretty much predetermined in N3
no matter what you do. But if you need a good dega setup for long runs we
have a good one up on our site at www.bhmotorsports.com.  Another way you
can test oout my statements here is use real life numbers , for example play
around with the tire psi and shocks and weight to get all the tires at 220 -
225 degrees
which suppose to be the ideal temp for tires for maxium grip and tire life
and the car will drive like ***and be slo as hell and you will never get
the LF over 200 degrees no matter what you do pretty much. You have to use
way unrealistic values to get any speed out of the setups in N3.

I also love how a car with 70% tape on the front will go over 94 laps
without buring up in the engine in the game.

There is no rear gear setting in the game :) only a 1st -4th gear settings
:)

If your pretty much new to the world of Papyrus Nascar Aracde Games then yes
it's fun but if you've been playing them since 1994 like alot of us then you
got bored of it 1month after it's release.

I agree that some aspects of this "sim" are pretty cheesy.  I also love
how the manual suggests setting your rear gear so that the rev light
blinks at the end of the straights... well, I can do it, IN THIRD
GEAR...

Besides all that though, it is a pretty fun game.

Another example of my fingers working faster than my brain. . . I meant
4th gear.

I find myself more frustrated (at times) than bored... most of the
folks I race with (and sadly myself included) must think we are Jimmy
Spencer.  I have yet to run a race that went more than 15 laps under
green.

Join a league, honestly it's a bundle of fun. There are all sorts out there,
for the fastest to the slowest drivers. WON races, well...don't go there! If
you feel you HAVE to, though, try to avoid the Dega races. The trickier the
track, the more likely it is that the Degaheads/kiddies won't be there.

Hmm...I ran someone's setup that had 65% tape, and the engine started running
hot after about 30 laps... :(
