Has anybody tried out the Mad Catz wheel / pedal combination?  They are
selling this for $70 at my local Circuit City and it looks pretty good
from the details on the box.

I'm using a Mad Catz with GP2.  My complaints are as follows:

The elastic bands wear out very quickly and then snap.  I've fixed this
problem by replacing them with  small bungee cords.  It is not an easy
operation.

The steering wheel is upside down in my opinion which makes full turning
awkward.  This problem is exacerbated by the fact that you have to hold the
wheel at the 10 and 2 o'clock positions because the gear change buttons are
located at those positions.  Ofcourse you can use the gear change lever
instead, but that wouldn't be the real thing as far as F1 cars are
concerned.

The bolts holding the pedals in place unscrew easily which cause the cogs
to lose alignment.  This messes up the braking and acceleration inputs.
You have to tighten the bolts very often.

$70 bucks? Forget that. For another 20 bucks you can get a T2, which IMO
is
much better than that cheap plastic Mad Catz thing (but still not the
best).

Where can I get a new T2 for $90?

Thanks,

I use one for GP2.  Works fine with the proviso that the angle
of attack is quite high on the wheel (it it points up too much).
It's OK when you get used to it.

Other wheels seem to be more solid though.

I bought a Mad Catz wheel from Circut City and in 3 days I returned it for
a full refund.  The dumb suction cups on the wheel would never hold on the
desk so the wheel kept sliding all around when I turned.  After I took it
back I went to Best Buy and bought a new T2 for $109.
