Mad Catz for GP2???

by brianr.. » Mon, 25 Nov 1996 04:00:00

Hi,

Has anyone here used the Mad Catz wheel for GP2?  From what I saw
at the store, I liked this one because it had buttons directly on the
wheel
(which the T2 doesn't) that I would assume could be used to change
gears.  If anyone has any info or comments on this wheel for use
with GP2, I would appreciate if you posted them.

Also, Mad Catz has 2 versions of their wheel-  one for PC's and one
for Sony Playstations.  Does anyone know if there is a way to make the
Sony one work for PC's?  Like a simple adapter or something?

Thanks.

I bought one, and it last for three hours before going back to the
store. It doesn't track very well, and feels like it would come apart in
your hand during hard driving. Get a T2 instead.

I've been using the Mad Catz wheel/pedal combo for about a week now with
GP2
quite satisfactorily.  The only nit I have is that the cable's connector
sheath is a touch
long, making for an insecure fit on my SB16 card: the consequence of which
is the
occasional "drop-out" when the cable loosens.

Since the documentation is a little sparse, I'm wondering how to set up the
extra
buttons to do things.  Anyone else have some tips?

On the Playstation, my Mad Catz works at least as well as my T2 on PC.
But the Mad Catz does seem more fragile, and a little less well
designed. Like the pedal plug coming out of the right side of the
wheel casing- dumb. Pops out , very insecure. They need a***setup
or something to keep it in. But you know, the T2, while it looks all
sturdy on the outside, you actually see that it is a little flimsy
when you open it up. And I wish they had used better quality pots,
too.

The buttons all over the Mad Catz really are nice. In NASCAR for
playstation (fantastic to me- sort of between the old NASCAR and some
of the graphics stuff we see in the new N2 demo), all the pit radio
stuff is right there on your fingertips.

Hi! I have bought the Mad Catz wheel and I'm using it with GP2. For now, I
have no problems with it, even though I have noticed a little "relax" in
the wheel during these 15 days of running.

But after all, it works very well! Much better than the keyboard!!!!! ;-)

        Anyone knows something more?

        Giovanni!

I personally really dislike the T2. I'm waiting till I can get my
hands on a real kart steering wheel, and I'll build a real good set
up. I hate the T2s pedals. Who was the retard who decided to put hte
pedal at the back end of the base? Anybody with grade 3 knowledge
would realize that it would ALWAYS tip over. I tried one out for about
two weeks and hated it. I had to use a two by for with some weights to
hold down the front of the pedal base, and the fact that there's no
shifter on the wheel kinda pissed me off, since I'm a GP2 player, not
NASCAR. Anyways, I put some buttons in the holes that are on the wheel
and it worked fine after that, but still. The T2 could use an
overhaul. I've heard good things from the TSW, or whatever, but it's
way too expensive, especially for what's inside. I mean, it's just a
few pots, some bungee rope, and wires.

Best thing to do with a T2 is throw away the warranty and go nuts on
it. revamp it to the max, add lights on it, add speakers, do whatever.
Ever been on Wally Wottenad's web site? He shows how to build your own
setup, or "upgrade" your store bought one. The guy goes a little too
far when he shows how to build a motion chair with pistons and
everything! hehehe

The Mad Katz wheel does feel a bit flimsy but I have used mine non stop
for about 6months now & the only thing to go wrong is the screws on the
pedals come loose.  I read someone elces posting suggesting I change the
washers & now all is cool!

I'm still a shitty driver though!

I bought the Mad Catz...TOOK IT BACK. Piece of junk. Comes with
suction cups that are supposed to hold the thing down....doesn't for
long, steering wheel is VERY stiff

I was not impressed I am putting the extra $100(canadian) out and
getting the T2...far better built

Its plastic, its cheap, its crap, and you can now get aT2 with paddles
and buttons on the steering wheel, its called a Thrustmaster Grand Prix
One.

Stick with the more expensive, (but better quality), set-ups if you can,
its worth it in the long run!!!!!!

Maybe I'm being really type A today, but... it's Pedals... PEDALS.
Not Peddles or paddles!

No, it is PADDLES.  I assume he was referring to the GP1.
