I forgot, 1NSANE is made for keyboard (keypad first perhaps) if you ask me.

Oh yeah ... I forgot about Insane!  I never liked GP3 much, but Insane ... now
that was a great demo!  Now that I'm done with CMR2, I think Insane will fill
its shoes quite nicely.  Thanx for the reminder : )

BTW, do you know what the online community is like for the full version now that
Insane has been released in NA?

Thanx,
Leo

What's your problem with a sim allowing the casual F1-sim driver to
buy and play GP3. I think it's great, as it may fund the next version.
Maybe that's because I'm not a Sim-Snob (tm)... ;)

Yip, I haven't had much luck ever playing a Papy game on a keyboard...
most others do have a provision for this though although times are never going to be great. It does keep you going between lunch hours though:-)

Is it just me, or has the notion of playing a racing game with the keyboard become a thing of the past these days?  I just read an article today that confirmed something I guess I already knew:  nascar 4 + keyboard = waste of time : )  This certainly speaks wonders for the realism of the game, but now it's just another game that I can only play when I setup up my steering wheel.  Remember the good old days when you could quickly stop the work your supposed to be doing on your computer, and turn a few laps in your favorite racing game using just the keyboard?  But now almost every racing game I own requires me to clear my desk, hook up my steering wheel, put the pedals in place, take some pills for the impending back pain, and then finally play.  I mean this is fine when you're setting up for a few hours worth of racing, but it's not so good when your seeking a quick distraction : )  So is it just me, or does anyone else yearn for the good ol' days of keyboard racing?
Desperately trying to start my thesis,
  Leo

Hehe another time you take my posts *way* too seriously ;-)

I think it's sad that developpers forget there is still keyboard racers out
there, but I understand that with the complexity of today's game engine and
the realism of the sims, it's quite difficult to implement.  Gone are the
days of driving on rails, where keyboards really were almost an advantage
due to the rapidity it took to change direction.

I have never run Insane online. And hardly offline for that matter, lack of
time and too many sims to play and teams/competitions to run .... Still I
felt I had to buy it after having played the demo :)
The online game is played through Codemasters servers as far as I know. I
don't know who play there and if there are any leagues going. Maybe someone
else can tell you more.

I think "developpers" is too general. GP3 has excellent keyboard support,
Insane as well. The way they implement it is the software emulates a wheel,
which starts turning when the corresponding key is pressed and starts
turning back when the key is released. In Insane you can set the speed at
which the wheel turns and goes back. When done in this way, good keyboard
support is not contradictory to a complex physics engine. Ok, keyboarders
won't be able to explore all the subtleties of the physics engine, but you'd
be amazed to see the level of control a good keyboard player can reach.

So did you not try the demo online either?  I can only speak from what I know
from the demo's, but you haven't really played Insane until you've tried the
online multiplayer : )  Online multiplayer was so much fun with the demo that it
actually lasted on my harddrive longer than several full games I bought!  The
demo also used the Codemaster Multiplayer Network utility to connect players,
and it worked quite well.
But the reason I was asking about the online community is cuz I recall a lot of
folks from NA complaining that there were very few people with low pings to play
with when the game was first released in europe since the game was not readily
available in NA.  Anyways, if you do find the time I highly recommend you try
the multiplayer component of the game : )

If you are like me and rarely get the chance to race. I really enjoy
it when I can though. I found a hand held wheel that works fairly well
in Nascar 3 and 4. It is called Ultra Racer and is simple to set up
and use. It hooks up through the game port. I know this is not the
ideal set up but I really can't justify the money for the expensive
wheel. i tried the $70.00 Logitech wheel and found that it was no
better than the $30.00 Ultr Racer. I will probably get flamed for this
but I thought I would offer an alternative.

I don't taken ANYTHING serious on a Usenet newsgroup...

(this time I skipped the smiley, as context should be sufficient this time)

I couldn't drive GP3 around 3 corners using the keyboard, some people enjoy
it. So, it's just great it's in, isn't it?

Flight sims - no market, too difficult. Put the damn options in to not
stall the plane every 2 minutes, put in the deathmatch mode. Maybe that
saves the sim market...

Like I said, it's unfortunate but I understand that game engines are enough
complex that it must be quite hard to implement a keyboard controller.  Sure
they could throw one, but to make one that is successful is quite difficult.
It's about the only thing good in GP3 <snickers>  ;-/

Hey I flew FS in CGA for about two years using a darn keyboard ;-)   I don't
count anymore the stalls I had when playing it!  But I did not stop, because
the sim was made for me.  If It wasn't, then I would had stopped playing.

If those lazy people can't have an attention span or more then 30seconds,
it's their problem.  Screw them, the developpers don't have to be the
martyrs of those spoiled MTV generation brats, IMHO.

In GPL Jagg?? Not likely for me!! Hey even tho' I race on my bed I
do get lo 28s & sometimes hi 27s at 'Monza' &  lo19s sometimes hi
18s at Spa. Nothing better then those gears! As I said before "I aint
the fastest" but I am not real slow either! <g>
Cheers Thom_j.
