F1 2002 Multiplayer Problems

by Russell Spearin » Tue, 11 Feb 2003 05:49:29

Hi all,
I regularly play F1 2002 over the internet with a friend of mine. We tend to
have a series of short races in an evening. We can each host a race ok once.
However, having already hosted one race each, if either of us host another
race, the other person will not be able to see it. We then both have to quit
out of the game, re-launch it, and then we can then both host one race each
again. This is still using the same internet connection. Does anyone know
why this is?

We are both using an ADSL internet connection and we do NOT announce the
race (we manually input the other persons IP address). All firewalls/routers
have been dissabled etc.

Many thanks

it's a failing of the f1 2k2 multi code.  Happens with all the mods.  If
you change a track, while staying connected, there is a good chance you
will loose the mirrors...only solution, exit and reload the sim.  While
chatting you can loose the focus of the sim and while everyone else joins a
race, you'll be stuck in limbo..if you do make it on the track the lap
counter/scorer won't tally your efforts.

When you say the Firewall/Routers have been disabled, what exactly do you
mean?

When you forward IP's for NR2003, you actually have to forward a _range_ of
addresses because NR2003 uses a range of them depending on the situation.

If you are only forwarding the one IP, instead of the range of IP's, it may
be why you can only do one race before resetting the software.

Just a wild guess...

Hi Larry,

When I said I had disabled firewalls/routers, I meant that they were
completely turned off and the ADSL modem was connected directly to the PC
running F1 2002. There was no firewall, router or even virus software
running, just a internet connection (via ADSL modem) on the local machine.

Regards

Russell
