F1 2002 multiplayer - two questions

by Uwe hoover Schuerkam » Mon, 20 Jan 2003 20:55:34

Hi folks,

as VROC was down last night my friend and I gave f1 2002 a try,
and it was surprisingly good with two or three drivers until a
HPB joined and spoiled the fun, so here goes:

- where can the maximum number of drivers be set for a
multiplayer race? we did not find anything obvious in the
multiplayer menus.

- is it possible to password-restrict races or would we have to
create a non-announce game and share the IP?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,

uwe

F1Dude is working on a new version of F1RST that will not only password
thesession, but keep out the F1 riff Raff from the mods.  I tried it the
other night and it was very buggy but hopefully he'll get it smoothed out
soon.
some other tricks to try...don't use the internet connection.  I have
heard if you all choose the lan setting and they have your IP# they
'should' be able to find your session.
Also there are several things you can do to improve the online session,
have everyone set thier connection speed to 56k, even the host, and find
out what your upload speed is.(try dslreports.com)  You can only host a
small # of cars unless you have a very fast VERY FAST upload capability.

Hi Dave,

thanks for your suggestions. Would 192kbit/sec be sufficient for
6 players?

cheers,

uwe

probably not.  If everyone is set to 56k then you would be lucky to
exceed 4 or 5 drivers.(host + 3 or 4 clients)  It's easy to tell.  Have
everyone join up and leave the pits together..i.e. wait in pit lane for the
pack to assemble..then drive out...if the cars are hugely jerky and
smearing then yu have overloaded the host.  Now one thing to be aware of,
at the 56k setting you WILL see some jitteryness in the cars when they
navigate turns.   It's one of the 'deals with the devil' you have to put up
with.  With a 300kbs host we had 7 drivers with no problem.  The moment the
8th driver joined in..screen caos.
