I am tossing up wether to buy f1rs, but fro the comments i have seen i
don't think it would be worth it.  Please set me straight is it worth
buying it?? What are the problems with it??? Will a P133 with 32meg ram
and a monster 3D card be enough to run it??  How much space does it take
on the hrad drive??

PLease e-mail me your answers

From the comments you have seen?!? Don't know what you are talking about. If
you have followed F1RS you will know that it knocks F1GP2 for six!

I have no idea what you are trying to compare it to.

P133? I would think you will get pretty nice performance out of it.
Provided your video card isn't a peice of shit.  I just got done talking to
someone with a Trident video and their system runs like it's got the flu.

Got a decent 2D video card? It'll run just fine.  If you don't, your money
is better spent there.

Don't let anyone tell you that the 2D card makes no difference just because
you have a M3d either.  That's bullshit.

I had a P-133 w/3DFX.  The framerate is perfectly smooth while hotlapping
with no other cars on the track.  This is with every graphical option turned
on and under max realism.  I used to race with 11 other cars, also max
everything, and the framerate was acceptable, but I noticed some slowdown,
especially at the start.  When I upgraded to a 200 MMX, it runs smooth with
a max field, even at the start.

I'm not sure what you mean about the comments of this ng and not buying it.
This game has received more positive feedback that most others.  It's an
excellent sim.

His money is best spent on the CPU...

Sorry, but its not bullshit. If you understand how a 3dfx card works you'd
know that. The best analogy I can think of is like a VCR machine. When recording
a TV show, its the VCR's tuner that receives the signal and records it. So even
though your VCR is connected to the television you can still record the show
with the television turned off.

When running a 3dfx app, the 3Dfx card is like the VCR and the 2D card is like
the television.

The person with the Trident card has some other problem.

David

John,

The P133 with M3D will be good enough, perhaps a little slow at the race
starts. The 3D graphics in F1RS are pretty good, certianly far ahead of GP2
and hopefully behind GP3 if that ever appears. I find three main problems
with F1RS:

1. Incredibly bad simulation of low speed spins. The car gets into a
spin-o-rama mode that is totally unrealistic.
2. The grass is coated with glue. If the car gets a wheel on the grass, it
is slowed down dramatically. There is simply way, way too much drag.
3. Unrealistic car movements. If you watch the car from an overhead view,
you can see it moving diagonally in some low speed situations. 4 wheel
steering?

Top that off with a grating car engine sound, with machine gun downshifts,
and you have an arcade game rather than a simulation. If the car dynamics of
GP2 could be imported into F1RS, now that would be a winner.

Keith.

No it's not worth it mate.  Trust me.  It's awful.  I've thrown it away - it
pissed me off too much.  I listened to the group and bought it - WRONG!!!
Wait for GP3 at the end of the year.  Otherwise stick with GP2.
What am I saying?!?!?!  Sorry, it's very very very very good - you can buy
my CD off me if you like? ;o)#

Why would a 2D card make a difference? Provided he has a decent 3D
card, then it will run great.

Sorry, but thats bullshit. If you're running 3Dfx mode, then it wont
make a difference. Its the 3D card at work, not the 2D card.

We have a different version...cause mine doesnt. Of course I do let
off the throttle once I spin...umm.

Ah thats true but it does keep the creative ones on the road in online
play.

Havent seen that at all....

Actually the sounds are a matter of opinion...I like the sounds. The
machine gun downshifts only happen if your using Auto Shift and even
then I intend to listen to a few of my 92/93 tapes of the F1 races to
see what they actually sound like....not sure they have gotten it that
wrong.

EEEEE....the car Dynamics into F1 Racing sim would be a tragic tragic
affair as F1 Racing sim does a better job of conveying being in a car.
GP2 is not playable at this time on my puter...F1 Racing sim is just
that much better...and I spent all that time making a custom helmet
for myself....for GP2....oh well I will import it into F1racing sim
and not look back.

In short, F1RS has it's shortcomings but is the best sim to date or
close to it. Graphics are great! Patches may fix other things.

Try this:

With f1rs running disconnect the transfer cable from the 2d car to the 3d
card. If it's anything like my system there won't be a s***of difference.

It looks to me like when a 3d game is running the 2d card is bypassed
completely, so it wouldn't matter a shit what sort of card it was.

When running 3dfx you can pull your 2D card right out of your machine.
It is doing NOTHING.

He probably didn't have the patience to set the car up correctly.
IMHO, if you don't set up the car properly it's very hard to get it
round the track at any decent speed.
In GP2 you could still go pretty fast even if your setup was all wrong.

F1RS needs patience and is much more rewarding to play than GP2 when
you've mastered it.

Andrew

Thats it in a nutshell. GP2 was easy to get around the track....even
on default settings....this one (F1 RS) will step on your face if you
try that unless you like idling around the track....<VBG> But a well
done lap in F1 RS is sooooo satisfying as to defy description,
especially for me at a place like Monaco...or Estoril...brilliant
stuff.
