F1RS with keyboard? Is it worth it?

by Jo Hels » Wed, 17 Dec 1997 04:00:00

A lot has been said about F1RS lately, but I for one am interested in this
particular question that hasn't been asked so it seems.

F1RS + keyboard: Is it playable or not?

To get the most out of your answer, I would also like to know what you thought
about GP2 and keyboard driving. Were you able to drive without F7 (traction
help) in GP2? What kind of times did you realise? Just to get some idea....

TIA,

JoH

F1RS with keyboard? Is it worth it?

If I have to say it:

BIG NO! Period. The means of braking and accelerating via keyboard goes
through an on/off routing, very anoying.

I fiddled around with the Joystick first before I reset it in F1-RS. This
gave me the standard on/off (digital?) mode. I want to control how much I
accelerate, so I can drift my car through a corner, I want to control my
braking so I don't lock up hard.

You can't make a gentle corner like with a Joystick or steering wheel I
think, also because it's on/off instead of a gradual turn in.

Just my FL 0,02.

German Mark V Panther tank knock out three M4 and three M5 tanks during and
after being hit by at least fif*** rounds of 75mm APC from a distance of
approximately 700 yards. All of these shells had ricochetted, with the
exception of a six***th round which finally put the Mark V Panther out of
action." Sgt. Thomas P. Welborn, Germany's Panther tank, the quest for

....

Thanks... Is it possible to configure the keys? Maybe even make them identical
to GP2??? (that would be TOO nice, really...)

Keep me informed about the playability without helps (excluding steering help,
obviously...)

Thanks for the feedback, but....This is exactly why I asked to get the opinion
from someone who's experienced in driving GP2 by keyboard. Contrary to
widespread opinion, GP2 IS quite playable by keyboard. Control being strictly
digital or not...Even when turning off throttle help (F7), it is more or less
(depending on the skill of the driver)possible to "simulate" analogue throttle
and brake and get good times.

Anyone experienced with keyboard-GP2 out there to give an opinion about
keyboard-F1RS????

Sin, sin, sin. Why in the hell would you destroy a good sim like
GP2 or F1RS by using a keyboard. You can afford a computer and these
sims, why not a wheel/pedal combo or at least a joystick. Just what is
the story with you people?
