NFS & SVGA - CPU req'd???

by Daniel Ts » Fri, 19 Jan 1996 04:00:00

Hi, does NFS require detection of a Pentium CPU to run in SVGA mode?

I'm thinking of getting an AMD dx4-120 or a Cyrix 5x86-120, and would
like to play NFS in SVGA. When I tried the demo on a computer using an
AMD dx4-100 it refused to load in SVGA.

Any ideas? Please e-mail.

Daniel.

I play it in SVGA on a DX4/120, with a 2MB Cirrus 5440 SVGA card.
This setup won't let me play FULL detail (or not at a reasonable frame
rate at least).  There is an option that automatically (and dynamically?)
adjusts the detail to match your hardware, and I tend to use this.
Most of the time I seem to be about 1 notch down from FULL svga, and
I don't usually get the horizon.  Other than that, its very playable.
However, I think I'd have been better off opting for a P1xx.

The F2 function key changes the detail mode. There are 6 setting I believe,
High, Low, Interlaced, Low Auto, High Auto and something else, this may be
your problem...

No Timeslips YET, but I can "CHIRP" going into 2ND, not bad for an AUTO!

I have a DX4-120 that runs NFS in 640x480 with everything on high (or far) and
it runs wonderful!!!  1024x768 will require a P6 or something from NASA to run
well.
