N2 modem problems

by DHensle » Sat, 13 Sep 1997 04:00:00

Race regularly with a friend via modem, just upgraded to a P166, and  have
been having problems ever since.  Hope someone can offer some solutions.
I'm always the caller, we get connected fine, but when the race starts, all
manner of hell breaks loose.  For starters, I'm only seeing 6-8 cars(have
it set to draw 39), almost every lap spotter yells "watch that spin", ect,
I see smoke, debris, but no wreck.  Lots of other annoying little glitches
like other cars pitting in my stall, getting run over while pitting, etc.
My friend has a Dell 200, loaded, with a Screamin 3D card, my 166 has 32
meg of EDO, a Virge 3D card, and runs N2 fine with all graphics on while
off-line.  We both have an Acer 33.6 SVD modem (they were freebies, we
hoped to be able to race and talk at the same time, havent figured that out
yet).  We both run out of Win95, he doesnt see any of the things I do while
racing.  We have both upgraded to version 1.03, and as of now have not
loaded any other patches.  Obviously, this is most annoying.  Any help
would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

That's the way Papyrus programmed the game.  If you don't want to
experience any of the things you are experiencing, have your partner
call YOU.  Unfortunately, it's in the sim, not in your computer.  You
can switch back and forth if you want.  That's what I have to do.
