You know I played the demo for a week or two and thought hey this is pretty
cool. Maybe I ought to get the full version so I can race with other cars. I
did. $30 for the game. Then I thought hey this would look a lot better with
a new video card. It did. $100 for the card. Hey maybe it will be better
with a new wheel/pedals. It is.$100. Aside from trying to explain to my wife
why I spent this much money for support of a game (why can't women
understand?) harder still is believing I just spent my entire day off
running hot laps at Monza and the Glen and I am still 3 seconds off the
pace. Is this an ***ion or what? I'm trying to figure out a way to get
out of work tomorrow so I can get in some more laps. Sanity(?) will prevail
though because I have got to make the money to pay for the stuff I just
bought. Man I have never felt so good to be so whacked out on something like
this.
Stick a fork in me..... I'm done ;)

Hehe, I know just how you feel. I got the game a week ago, and am hooked.
I've dropped all my flight sims (it's not you, European Air War, it's
me...sorry it had to end like this) and have spent hours on this thing,
trying to boost my lap times. I'm shopping for a steering wheel and pedals
now, so if anyone has any recommendations, I'm all ears.

Don't feel alone. New logitech wheel, pci usb card, subwoofer/speakers,
replacement sb16 after first one died, now sblive value since sb16 sucks,
17" monitor, more ram, new chair, and this fall a new cpu. Then I'll have
to divide my time between n3 and gpl. It could be armaggedon day, and I
would still just drive to work, drive straight back home and play gpl, well,
maybe not if it's armaggedon......then I'd steal a hyperstimulator, take it
home, and play gpl. Goodbye outside world.

Get this fork outta me, it's making it hard to steer!

Got it a few days ago myself. Terribly hooked. It makes me want to try
VROC, and I *hate* playing online games. =)

The funny thing is that I totally picked it up on a lark. I thought, "Wow, $15!
I hated the demo, but what do I have to lose?!"

But like others here, now I want a new steering wheel (or more
specifically, a high-grade steering wheel) that I certainly can't afford. Doh!

Yeah, and something with a clutch pedal too! =)

I went out and bought a new CDROM drive because my old one died. JUST TO
INSTALL GPL!!!

me too :)

i can lap consistent laptimes at the glen cause i practiced it months before
the full game came out :)

I bought the game in October 98 then bought a graphic card then upgraded the
card then fitted two cards in SLI mode upgraded the motherboard to fit new
450 CPU then bought new F1 sim compact steering wheel then upgraded to F1
sim wheel then went completed stupid and bought a game frame chassis the
worst thing apart from impending divorce I get down to 1,31.64 at
Silverstone and think that I,am getting there just to find a fast lap site
with Graeme Nash in the 1,26 bracket that made me really sick.

Without spending too much money on your habit, I would recommend the
Thrustmaster SuperSport wheel/pedals combination ($79.95 msrp). If you
really need to spend money, you can go up to the $1000+ range.

$15 bucks? Jeez. I searched all over town for the two weeks prior to its
arrival. I bought it at K-Mart for 59.95 + 3 or 4 dollars tax for a total of
$63.00

I'm ashamed to say I'd do it again. Very ashamed.

Thanks for the info... I've checked out their web page and it looks alright.
Glad to see it has paddles for gear shifts, since that was on my must list.
Didn't notice anything about whether it had a split axis, which my
flight-sim conditioned brain seems to think is separate controls for braking
and acceleration, so that you can do both at the same time. Is this
important? It would seem so, but I don't have $1000 burning a hole in my
pocket for a ECC wheel setup. $80 US sounds about like my price range at
the moment, but I might go a little higher. Later I expect this GPL
***ion will take control of my life and I'll probably start pawning my
wife's jewelry and start selling crack on the street to support my habit.
:-)

I never thought I'd really need a Voodoo card until I got one for this game.

Hi there,

and i thought, I just went crazy about GPL,

I --> bought an new CPU --> an Herc. Thriller -->an SB Live --> an 19"
Monitor --> an new Wheel ( MS FF ) --> new speakers with subwoofer -->
because I now compete in an local Network-GPL-League i bought --> an
Network-Card --> an Sony headphone... to be continued

Just because I got so ecxited about GPL i also created an homepage about it
so I bought --> an faster modem --> some books with pictures --> upgraded my
online-account, to have more space for my page--> Staroffice to create the
frames on my page--> Some Paint proggies to make graphical things for my
page-->to be continued..

But there are also some things i bought, but didn't use, because i just
don't have the time because of GPL -->Half Life ( no time,altough the first
level was great :) --> Colin MC Rae Rally --> Motocross Madness--> Viper
Racing --> to be continued...

And finaly there are things i normaly would have bought, but just did not
because I just dont have the time because of GPL -> Baldur's Gate --> TOCA
2( when it will be out ) --> Alpha Centauri --> to be continued

Makes me feel better that I'm not the only one...

Relax, I just pulled out the fork. Hey, you think you got it bad? I
got a whole new computer, 400Mhz, a Monster2 card, a 17" high
resolution monitor, a TSW wheel w/dual axis and paddle shifters, new
speakers, all just to improve play on GPL. I have no other games
installed. I got GPL the day it was released, and have been playing it
practically full time ever since. I am retired and will be 70 in
October. I don't go to work, I just drive. The only thing that
competes with GPL is my new, 99 Miata. Am I getting good? Well,
relatively, but no hotdog. I can win untweaked AI races at Monza, but
nowhere else. I always start from the back because it's so
disheartening to qualify fairly well or even in front, and then
repeatedly get punched out when braking. Do these AI need glasses?
Working on Spa now. 19th to 11th, (Ferrari) 9th to 4th, also Ferrari,
running with top 6 w/Lotus, reeling them in frequently but no wins.
Got a PDPI card which was giving me fits, but mysteriously has settled
down now so I expect to do better. 8:52 at Nurburg, 1:29 at Monza,
1:06 at WG. I may get a handle on this before I croak. Sam
