I am unable to break 1:33 at Zandvoort.  I figure there must be something
fundamentally wrong with my technique, but I also use braking help.  Does
anyone know how much braking help slows you down?

A ton...turn it off. Learn how to brake yourself.

Braking help, won't slow u down as fast as doing it yourself.  I use
braking help at the moment too as I have no pedals.  Altho i've found if
u want to slow down in a hurry ... drive the lotus, that thing will
outbrake any car in the game!

It will hamper you a lot. Turn it off, and use the brakes yourself. It will
always brake on the side of safety, not speed...
