 Julian,
I run F1RS with the GP1 and have not had problems like you describe. I get a
very real change in sensitivity when I change the setting in the menu, both for
throttle and brake, of course each setting is independant. You are not trying to
drive in novice mode are you? It could be the game trying to override your
input, what have you. Try turning off all the driving aids. The other thing is
that you have the US version. Mine is from the UK and works great. It is quite
possible that they screwed something up while trying to patch some other
problem. Have you tried it without the patches and does it change? About pedals,
as far as I know the CH pedals work with the GP1, but I have not tried it
myself. Good luck. All the best, Mike

I just bought this game, and have tried everything to try and improve the
acceleration and braking, to no avail. There is simply insufficient analog
range - I only have a millimetre between off and 100% on. I don't believe
this is realistic! Changing the sensitivity doesn't help - it just means
there is more travel where nothing happens, then its 100% on again.
The wheel appears to be calibrated Ok (i use Thrustmasters Propanel), and it
works Ok for CPR and GP2.
I saw in a FAQ that dirty pots might be the problem. Whilst I don't think it
is because its OK in other games, has anyone had any experience in cleaning
the pots on a GP1. Where are they for starters - I think they are just
beneath the levers - but they are hard to get at.
Can foot pedals be added to a GP1 wheel? Someone told me they enjoyed more
range with foot pedals.
I have tried reinstalls - full installs, and have the latest patches - 1.9
now.

Julian,

I also use the GP1 with F1RS every day. I have the UK version of F1RS, bought
here in the US, patched to 1.09. It took a LOT of getting used to, driving
these cars, they will spin the real tires at the slightest provocation, but it
will also let you set up the most glorious "Michael Shumacher" like powerslides
if you find youself in a bit of trouble exiting a turn.

Have you adjusted the Throttle and Brake sensitivity in the Controls menu? This
adjustment helped me dial in the GP1 to my liking.

This may be the answer you are looking for, found it a FAQ on the best site
on the web
for F1RS http://www.f1racingsim.com/index.html check it out !!!

Configuring your wheel in F1RS

The best way to do this is to first configure the controller using keys for
each option in the F1RS controller menu. Once you have done this, then use
your wheel and pedals for each appropriate option.

If your pedals are on a separate axis, its important that you have at least
v1.05 of F1RS installed and that your wheel is setup correctly in the Win95
game controllers.

Enjoy

I use Philips contact cleaner(spray) from time to time on my gp1.
Just spray a little bit into the pots(3) There are some small holes
in the potchassis, and then take the pot from side to side. You have
to take most of the wheel apart to do the trick. Guess the pot-quality
is pretty poor ...
It helps a lot on my wheel.
Good luck.

About pedals,

Using this setup for my sims for quite a while now.  Works really well in N2
and GP2, and got it working pretty good in F1RS although I don't have a lot
of wheel time on that one and still trying to adjust the sensitivity just
right.

The GP1 wheel and it's paddles are on the Joystick 1 axes, and the CH Pedals
can be set for either single-axis (rudder) or dual-axis (seperate gas/brake)
on Joystick 2, so no conflicts.  You can set up the paddles for shifting in
Papy sims but GP2 and F1RS only allow buttons AFAIK, so I use the buttons on
the wheel for shifting.

For F1RS, you have to set them up as a Custom controller in the Win95
joystick config, 4 axis, 4 button, steering wheel.  Sometimes tricky getting
F1RS to get all the axes right, but works great when you do.  Real easy in
N2 and GP2 to set up.

For some games, it doesn't seem to want to use seperate brake/throttle, so
you have to set it for rudder - and some want the TM1/2 type setup of the
wheel and pedals on the same joystick.  Seems to work right setting the
pedals to rudder mode, and selecting "T1/T2 without adapter" for the
controller in Win95, it ignores the paddles entirely and puts the pedals on
the same joystick as the wheel.

All in all a great combo, especially since I fly sims as much as I drive
'em, real versatile and also cheap - a GP1 can be had for $30-$40 new, and
these pedals are about $40.  $70 total for a pretty good combo and the way
to go if you do flight sims too and aren't made of cash.

Ken - go #43 and #44
