GP3 Multi-player

I hope this doesn't sound stupid. It also has probably been discussed when
GP3 first came out but some help from you computer experts would be nice.

GP3 has a multi-player menu. What sort of multi-player is possible? Can you
play multi-player through a cable modem? I just want to play against one
other person. Isn't a cable modem a TCP/IP connection?

Please try to explain it so us novices have a clue.

Thanks,

Chris G.

If you're trying to understand multiplayer, cable modems and all the rest,
don't go to GP3 for your explanation.  That is a bad model, as the process
of trying to play online and all you have to go through to get it not to
work, is too convoluted.

You do need a TCP/IP protocol installed to play using a cable modem.  That's
for any game that has TCP/IP support.  But it's very unlikely that you'll be
able to play GP3 over the net.  I've tried it before-- only briefly-- and it
was so slow that I gave up even thinking that the game had a chance of
having decent online play.  Playing the game at home on a LAN is possible
and works pretty well, despite, again, having to go through some unorthodox
procedures to get it to work.

I do not know what it would be like on a cable modem etc but I have 2 PCs at
home of reasonable spec (P3 550 and P2 233 ) with a LAN connection and it is
playable but I doubt it would be very good any other way. Can be glitchy at
times.
