The current release date actually for N3 is Fall of 99.  But it could change
as always... especially if they get some other titles on the market using
the old game engine  (the rumored N2000 or Nascar Legends).

I guess E3 will create a more accurate release date.

Tell us what you heard about the rumors, please! That NASCAR Legends sounds

be better.

What would N2000 improve on from NR1999?

I guess we will hear more after E3 if this is the case.

We only know that there is a team creating another thing at Papyrus than N3,
that's official.  David Matson and his team is working on another thing. The
N2000/NLegends is only a rumor.  But I wouldn't be surprised if Sierra
pushed them to make another title of the (sorry but the term is true) old
game engine.  It could be a great product, still.

We got spoiled by GPL ;-)

Sorry to be so uninformed, but what is E3?

No hints of what it is?

IMHO, it would be a waste of development dollars to throw any more
development into the old game engine, and I REALLY don't think Papy is
doing this.  I think it would be much safer to assume that that they're
working on one of two projects (besides N3), both of which may be based
on the GPL engine:

1) Cart 3 - this is probably the most likely since there's a LOT more
young people that are familiar with CART than there are young people
familiar with legendary names and tracks from Nascar's past.  That, and
the fact that ICR2 is getting rather long in the tooth, and their license
for CART is near expiration.

2) Nascar Legends - From a business standpoint, I don't see how this
would sell very well.  Bigger, slower cars on pretty much the same tracks
we have now.  I would personally buy it in a heartbeat, but after driving
N3, I don't know if even the most die-hard Nascar fans would find it much
of a challenge or as interesting.  The only real benefit for most folks
in getting this package would be that there's an outside chance that the
tracks could be added to N3...

I saw it listed in a "Chips & Bits" ad showing an availability date of
7/99...but I suppose that is a tentative date.

Hi,
As far as other projects go, I hope the rumours about CART 3 are
true!  Milwaulkee would be even greater in CART 3! (and what about
Michigan/California with that new wing device) I wish they would bring
back the Reno Air Racer idea.  I was disappointed when they scrapped
that. A flight/racing sim ould be so cool and would have both the
flight/racing sim crowd as an audience.

Would love to see the Reno Air Races come back.  When I grew up, we had one
of the fastest P-51s at the races hangared at our municipal airport...she
was the "Red Baron" and was a twin counter rotating prop P-51 that got
augered like mms I think mid80s in an Reno Air Race....pilot barely survived
and plane was totaled. :(

I know you would had wrote this ;-)   And I agree with you.  Im no business
man, but if they still reuse the old game engine, I know many people who
will just drop and not buy it.  But the % is very low compared to the mass
market that just buys any title that has the Nascar name on it.

Already game reviewers were trashing Papyrus for NR99, so I can't see how
the people like us in r.a.s. or the *** magazines and website will see
another game based on the old game engine. I mean cmon do you still see
titles based on the Build game engine for FPS ? ;-)

I just do not like the idea of adding and adding and adding stuff to what
6year old game engine ? And please NOBODY tells me Im spreading false
rumors.  If Papyrus didn't thought that their title development is something
like National Security. we WOULDN'T be doing such a thing.  Their fault, not
ours.

They said in an Intervew that the new CART title was being considered in the
future, but no plans yet. So you can cross this one.  They said they weren't
working on this.  Sorry but they aren't ;(

But on another point..  it would be Nascar Legends using the OLD game
engine. Not the GPL game engine, the OLD one.  Rumors say that Sierra were
very happy about the NR99 sales (it did very well) and they still want to
push another title using the old game engine. Im very sad.. but that's the
state of the *** industry :(

Really!  There's about 200000 NASCAR games out there and only 2 or 3 decent
CART games around (if you consider CART Precision Racing decent, I mean, hell,
the old Papyrus 1ndy 500 game is more realistic than CPR!).

Believe it or not, two Build titles (Nam and WWII:DI) were released
withing the last 9 months, one of them this year.

Well I agree. And even in the above example, the Build games are
totally 3rd-party. 3D Realms are working on the next-generation Duke
Nukem using the Unreal engine.
