RBR is pretty hot and may well be a better simulator than GPL but I doubt
we'll be talking about it in 5 years time...(unless it's the start of a
franchise)

WHAT??
........could be possibly better simulator than GPL?

Ok I can't talk, haven't tried RBR, but it sure seems to be making headlines
in this group...
Is there a demo somewhere?

Uh...  NR2003, F1C, a long time ago.

Pretty much... also completely outclassed as a single player game by GTR2002
for F1 2002 last year.

With GTR, RFactor and Keammer's as yet unannounced future offering, GPL
might have run its course by this time next year.

Unless some modders want to continue working "the hard way", of course.

I wish those modders would focus their attention on other sims.  Why waste
your time with GPL when a much better game engine with a very similar file
structure is available in NR2003?    The modders of the ISI family are
already established and moved on to the next sim whenever it was there
(F12000->2001->2002->F1C and proably GTR in the future)

Surely it's not a waste of time if people enjoy their efforts?

I thought the problem with N2003 was that no matter how you mess about
with it, you can't make the cars feel anything like a lightweight F1 car.
And to be honest I wasn't very impressed with any of the N2003 mods,
despite their initial promise.

My loss no doubt, and I still feel I *ought* to enjoy N2003 more than GPL.
But I still have no emotional attraction to the Nascar style of racing (I
didn't even know it existed until I was nearly 30!) and I prefer the feel
of the lightweight GPL cars over N2003 or, for that matter, the cars in
the GTR demo. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate and buy other sims,
it's just that given a choice, I still prefer GPL as a package despite its
limitations. I guess others still feel that way too. No doubt it's a case
of enduring mass hysteria ;-)

Actually RBR is the first sim that's given me a similarly satisfying
"light weight, over-powered" racing feel. Shame we can't have 20 driver
races on GPL-style tracks. But then by now I've got used to wishing for
things that never happen in this hobby :-)
