Ok, I have about 4 video cards narrowed down,  and Im not sure on which on to
buy.  I will mostly be using them for Rendition applications, N2, ICR2, etc...
 Here are my 4 choices...

  1.  Diamond's Stealth II
  2.  Diamonds Monster 3D
  3.  Canopus Total 3D
  4.  Intense 3D

Which is the best card for rendition based programs????
         Thanks,.

I'd say that the best card to buy would probebly be the Diamond Sleath
II Card because it has the latest Rendition Technology. But soon, there will
be a newer one which will replace the Diamond II. But it's still ytour
choice on final desicion.

If you want Rendition Verite performance you definately do not want the
Diamond Monster 3D since its a 3Dfx based card and does not have a
Rendition chip on it. But if you want to buy a good Rendition based 2D
and 3D card get the Intense 3D, then you can add-on the Monster 3D, that
way you get the best of both 3D standards, Verite and 3Dfx.

One more time so everyone understands, in order to run a "Rendition
Ready" game you MUST have a video card with a Rendition Verite chip on
it. If it does not say specifically Rendition Verite on the box, it is
NOT a Rendition card. 3Dfx and Verite are NOT interchangeable.

I just picked up the "Screamin' 3D" card from Sams warehouse for $100.00. I
installed it and tried N2. There was some improvement but not enough in the
rend mode to justify the $100.00. I replaced it with my simple STB graphics
card. Tomorrow I'll make a return trip to make a return (grin) I noticed
there was a marked decrease in frame rate with the rend mode. I have to
confess I didn't try the -4 switch. I just wasn't impressed at all with the
card. Just for anyone who is considering the discounted  Sierra card.  I'd
wait until it is discounted to around $50.00, before making  the plunge.

For real benefit of the Rendition cards, one must use the DMA version of
the rend mode.  The straight rend (n2rend.bat) really doesn't improve a
heck of alot.  The real speed comes when the dma mode kicks in.  Of
course for the dma to work its magic your motherboard chipset must
support it and various CMOS options need to be setup properly.

I, too just bought on from Sam's for $99.  Have you tried to play WinQuake or
QuakeWorld at resolutions other than 320x200?  When I try to switch modes, my
computer locks up!

Also, have you experienced any problems with power managment in Windows?  I
can't seem to get the monitor to blank (energy Star complient) by using the
"Suspend" on the Start button, but the monitor will blank (turn off) from the
screen saver...

Thanks...

Not that this is a Quake or Rendition ng, but why bother with those
versions of Quake when there is a Rendition-specific version, VQUAKE.
Try it, you'll like it.
