Best video card given my system and other issues...

Hello R.A.S:

I have a p166 (64 ram) and want a card that will run Quake as well as N2
pretty fast.  Any suggestions?

Sorry for the partially off topic post,

Thanks in advance,

Rick

The Sierra Screamin 3D card is your best bet, since the software bundle
includes the Rendition version of Quake. NascarII runs very good with it
but, the ICRII 3D that comes with the card is the big surprise here.
BTW, hope you were asking about video "Accelerator Cards".

Since the only card that N2 supports at the moment is the rendition
chipset, it will be your only choice if you want to run N2 at high fps.
The good thing is that quake also supports the rendition chip.  I've
tried using the shareware version, and it looked impressive to me.  I
think that the 3dfx board would give better effects +fps in quake, but
you would have no enhancement to N2.  The rendition boards include the
Intergraph board, the Sierra Screamin' 3d, Canopus total 3d, and the
Creative labs 3d blaster.  All include icr2 enhanced version except the
creative 3d blaster if that makes any difference to you.

What do you mean, "partially off topic"?  Your post was from way
out in left field!  The only reason I read this news group is
to catch up on the latest conspiracies and flame wars dealing with
(in no particular order): Papyrus, the IRL, ymenard (who makes me HAPPYHAPPYHAPPYHAPPY), Microprose/Geoff Crammond (sp?), Jeff Gordon,
the IVGA, etc.

I am shocked and amazed that you would even consider posting a
reasonable question such as yours to this quagmire.  Not only was
yours a reasonable question, both brief and to the point, it actually
appeared (to the untrained eye) to be relevant to what one might
believe this news group to be all about.  That was your first mistake!
I am sure by now you have been flamed mercilessly by the local
denizens who can't believe you would want to waste their bandwidth
with this type of non-drivel.

Now get with the program.  Start trashing everything in sight. Complain
about things you don't even care about.  *** about every piece of
software that came after the salad days of the industry, when PONG
machines ruled the arcades!

PS:  I am pretty happy with my Rendition based Intergraph Reactor
(now renamed to something else by those corporate fascist bastards
who won't rest until they have ruined every second of my miserable
life).  It's a pretty decent card for N2 and Quake on my overclocked
166, although if that anti-christ^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H fine
organization up in Redmond has it's way I'll have to buy a Pentium XX
running at 50 GHz just to boot my next operating system, those dirty
rat bastards . . .

I've got a P166 with 32 megs RAM and a Sierra Screamin' 3d.  N2 should
be able to sustaine full detail on SVGA on your machine. Quake should be
able to do 640x480 at 25-30 fps also.
