I'm running on a cable modem which is connected to a
Linux box which is configured as a gateway. All of
the machines on my LAN (four Win95 boxes) can access
the internet thru this Linux gateway (I''m using ip
masquerading).
I can't seem to connect to anyone else running GPL
as a server, and nobody can connect to me when I try
to be the server. I think that if I can identify
which port GPL uses, I can pass the packets thru to
the Win95 machine that is actually running GPL.
I can play Quake2 and NROS just fine with my current
configuration.
I have found out (thanks Eric and Randy) that GPL uses port 32766 to
listen for client connections, and that when a client connects, GPL will
open and use a 2nd port for communications with that client.
I have tried adding the following two lines to my CORE.INI file:
[Communications]
net_server_port=32766
and I even tried with this line:
alternate_ip_addr_lookup=1
GPL see's my IP address as 10.10.0.1 which is correct for my LAN, but is
*not* the IP address that the internet sees.
My questions:
1) Is that 2nd port always the same?
2) If it's not the same, is there a specific range of
ports GPL will try to use?
3) If it isn't the same, and must be different than
the listening port, is there a way to force GPL to
use a specific port for client communications?
4) Is there a way to force GPL to use my real IP
Can somebody please help me figure this out? I really want to try
multiplayer racing.
