GP3: How to get that LWFF working with official release

by Jan Hoviu » Fri, 04 Aug 2000 04:00:00

Hi,

After 'evaluating' GP3 first I finally decided to buy the sim yesterday.
But.....all of a sudden I can't use my brake & throttle anymore on my LWFF.
In the Warez-version no problem at all with the controller (except that I
had to report combined axis in the profiler because GP3 doesn't understand
seperate axis). Has anybody out here any clue on what might be wrong?

Another question: Has the no-cdrom utility already been released for GP3? It
takes a long time before the sim starts up using the CDROM (I wished I
hadn't deleted the warez version from my system, it ran great).

Thanks for any help

Jan.

Mine did the same, but I fiddled about with the settings in the Game
Controllers menu, not the LWFF profiler, and somehow it all started working
fine?

no, same problem here :-(
as a temporary solution, I copied the GP3.EXE from the warez version
over the original one and now it works at least with combined axis ...

completely? doh.

Hallo Jan, Are you trying to tell me that you can not use split axis on the
LWFF 9 Apart from you other problem not being able to use brake +throttle).
Did you report this to the Wingman team ?
Before this and other problem with the LWFF are sorted out I defininitely
will not buy GP3.

Same problem here as well I was ok with the warez version I ticked the box
in the windows joystick control panel to combined pedals and it worked but I
haven't checked whether its affected GPL settings yet.

Hi "scrcs",
I can use split axis on the LWFF (I love this wheel), GP3 can't!
In the meantime I did the same as Liutger: Downloaded the "no-cd-patch"
(which in fact contains the "CLASS" warez version of GP3) and replaced the
original GP3.exe with this one. This way both my problems are solved: LWFF
does work (single axis but at least it does work) and I have no need for the
CD to be inserted in order to start the program.

We definitely need a patch which fixes the "wheel" problem in GP3 though!

Thanks for your reactions.

You can also try settings which you can find on www.bhmotorsports.com
Go to GP3, utilities, controllers. Download it and unzip it in the Gpsaves
folder.
Go to the game and load these settings. These settings work perfect on my
LWFF (usb).

It appears that the profiler will NOT work with the full version..
Strange, eh?  I had all the nice keys (g, o, shift-q, etc) mapped to the
buttons, and it worked fine with the *cough* warez.  But now that I have
the retail, no more does it work.  I tried re-doing the config from
scratch, reinstalling the LWFF drivers and wingman profiler, but to no
avail.  Simply doesn't work.  Maybe the no-CD patch will fix it??

I had the same problem and solved it like this. Make sure that everywere you
can tick it mark "report pedals combined." I think the important place is in
control panel, controllers.. but i wouldn't know for sure since i this was
the last i checked. anyways it worked for me.
I read at alpha F1 "Latest reports are indicating quite contradictory info
about the possible patch for GP3. Some reports say that Hasbro and Microsoft
are working together to make better steering wheel support to the game.
Other reports are saying that they'll not make a patch since, they'll
release Grand Prix 4 shortly. According to the latest reports, GP4 is a
totally new game which is based on season 1999". I hope this is a lie
because this game needs a loving hand before the push GP4 out the door. I
thought that the 99 season was supposed to be an upgrade?

Andrew, did you get it working? The no-cd patch from bhmotorsports.com fixed
it for me.

I feel sorry for the hundreds of LWFF owners who know nothing of usenet and
wouldn't know what to do with a no-cd patch anyway. I hope everyone with GP3
and an LWFF emails Hasbro about their problems.

Are there different no-cd patches out there? The one I have (from
gamecopyworld) made no difference at all...  :(

Although I can now run without the CD, of course...  ^_^

I'll stroll on over to the Black Hole and download their version.
Maybe that will do the trick!

<pause to d/l another no-cd patch>

Nope, the Black Hole version is no different from the one I had
before - apart from being over 8MB as opposed to c. 650k!!! Still
no buttons...

Either I'm being incredibly thick or something just doesn't work
right.  I guess I'll continue to have to make do with reaching
across my desk to the keyboard...  :(:(:(
