Okay, I'll take the bait...
No. I haven't played GPL yet. Why? Well, last year, after spending some
fair amount of change upgrading to a (then) higher-end machine... the
demo hit the streets. At first I was interested, until I read how
"choppy" it was on similiar machines as mine. Remember, I had just spent
$$ to get a machine that N2 runs fluidly with lots of eye candy... and
now I have to start all over again? No thanks... I wasn't interested in
DL'ing a demo that would make me disgusted with my new machine. Of
course, now that PII400+ machines are out... guys are saying how smooth
it is... but I'm not ready to sink more $$ into *** at this time.
Answer to first question: I'm not an "arcade" racer. Answer to second
question: No, I wouldn't say it looks boring. It looks like it would be
fun sim. HOWEVER... from all that I've read about it's difficulty level.
I'm now beginning to wonder if I will EVER want to invest that much time
and frustration into simply learing to drive the sim.
No.
Maybe. (To "stockpile" until the time that I might upgrade again.)
Well, it's not that I don't CARE. It's just that I don't want to start
spending hefty dollars to bring my (only) 1-year old machine up to spec
to run it acceptably. Not when I have three sims on it now that run
excellently, and that I haven't exhausted as yet (N2, ICR2, GP2).
Actually, I guess it's disheartening that no matter HOW MUCH you spend
on a machine...it's only good for about a year... and then the next
generation of sims/games will have you back at the bottom of the food
chain... only to start the cycle all over again. At some point, a guy
has to say "it's enough". I guess, for me, that time has come with GPL.
Understand... sort of like: inquiring minds want to know... huh?
