Just wondering.. has EVERYONE here played the Grand Prix Legends demo yet??
If you haven't... why the heck not??.. After all, this IS
"rec.autos.simulators".. we should all be interested in this product.

I was just a little curious to find out if the arcade-racers who frequent
this group (we have to welcome everyone...) are even interested in GPL, or
have they dismissed it as being "a boring sim"?

If you haven't downloaded the new track..are you planning to?.. are you
planning to buy GPL when it comes out.. or could you care less?

just curious..

I played the demo briefly when it first came out only to get a feel for what
Nascar 3 would be like. I personally don't care much about road racing and
don't plan on buying the product.

Herr DoktorB....

I have a friend who, due to hardware constraints, had never seen the
demo running anywhere near optimum.  In fact, he had seen it "running"
(if that is the correct term) at below what will be minimum specs.
His comments were, naturally, not complimentary...in fact, one could say
that he was somewhat derisive about the sim.

Last week he was able to upgrade his equipment....still not the optimum
(we aren't all millionaires!) but to a level that will certainly enable
him to enjoy the sim.

He is now enraptured and enthralled by the experience and will sell his
wife and children for scientific experiments in order to be able to buy
the game when it's released.

I am sure that his e***ment and anticipation will be echoed ten
thousand times over.

I have not yet gotten the demo to work properly on my new pentium 400. I
have nothing but sound problems & I hope this is only a demo problem. I will
purchase gpl when it comes out as I do any driving game or sim when it comes
out.

Hi,
I tried it at work one day! :)  We had P233's there, compared to the
P120 I'am using right now!  That should change in a couple of days when I
pick up my AMD K6-2 333!  And I will finally get to see what this 3d
acceleration thing is all about too!  Hopefully I'll get to try GPL on
this system soon, if I can get it to work in Win98!  I'll be defently
picking up the game as soon as it is released!

Later,
John

I tried it when it the Demo came out, but now I have Win98 and I'm dead
in the water with GPL. I guess I'll wait for it to come out.

I haven't tried it yet and have no intention of doing so. Old
F1 cars just don't appeal to me I guess.

If you say so.

Yes, I played the original demo for quite a while. I have not downloaded
Monaca, or played it since installing win98, just haven't taken the time to
make the changes necessary to get it to run in win98. I will be buying it as
soon as it hits the shelves though.

Okay, I'll take the bait...

No. I haven't played GPL yet. Why? Well, last year, after spending some
fair amount of change upgrading to a (then) higher-end machine... the
demo hit the streets. At first I was interested, until I read how
"choppy" it was on similiar machines as mine. Remember, I had just spent
$$ to get a machine that N2 runs fluidly with lots of eye candy... and
now I have to start all over again?  No thanks... I wasn't interested in
DL'ing a demo that would make me disgusted with my new machine. Of
course, now that PII400+ machines are out... guys are saying how smooth
it is... but I'm not ready to sink more $$ into *** at this time.

Answer to first question: I'm not an "arcade" racer. Answer to second
question: No, I wouldn't say it looks boring.  It looks like it would be
fun sim. HOWEVER... from all that I've read about it's difficulty level.
I'm now beginning to wonder if I will EVER want to invest that much time
and frustration into simply learing to drive the sim.

No.

Maybe. (To "stockpile" until the time that I might upgrade again.)

Well, it's not that I don't CARE. It's just that I don't want to start
spending hefty dollars to bring my (only) 1-year old machine up to spec
to run it acceptably. Not when I have three sims on it now that run
excellently, and that I haven't exhausted as yet (N2, ICR2, GP2).
Actually, I guess it's disheartening that no matter HOW MUCH you spend
on a machine...it's only good for about a year... and then the next
generation of sims/games will have you back at the bottom of the food
chain... only to start the cycle all over again. At some point, a guy
has to say "it's enough". I guess, for me, that time has come with GPL.

Understand... sort of like: inquiring minds want to know... huh?

Yep, got Watkins Glen the day after ir first appeared on the net, (I
was a bit slow!) and Monza two days after it first appeared
(problems with my modem!).......Oh, bye the way, Thank You.

I prefer sims, (GP1, GP2, F1RS, NASCAR, RAC Rally, Superbike World
Championship, etc) but do enjoy arcade racers too (TOCA, Moto Racer,
Motorhead, Screamer2, MTM, etc)

I think no matter which you enjoy, you would be hard pushed to label
GPL boring! it doesn't matter how good (or bad) you are at driving it,
the fantastic driving and physics modelling is awesome, How can anybody
*NOT* love it to bits!!!!!

The very second I hear about it being released I will be at my local
store, camping outside if necessary......

Hope your curiosity has now been satisfied....

I'm running a K6-200 w/rendition V1000, and the demo runs
perfectly.  If you have a rendition card, it'll run fine.
The released version will probably run better on a P233
w/rendition than ICR2 or N1 ran in SVGA on any computers
available when they came out.

I didn't know that it was a requirement to play this demo if I
frequent this NG.  I haven't had the time yet this summer to try out
the demo...I actually have a life (at least in the summer) outside of
computers.  I shall endeavour to pour every waking moment I have into
playing GPL so that you might be happy.
