I'm real pleased with my KDS 19" with the Trinitron tube. I think it was
around $420.
It even seemed to help my frame rate, let alone look a heck of allot
sharper.  Found mine at Best Buys.

Sony or Mitsubishi monitors are the best.

I'm using an older Viewsonic 21, but a Panasonic 19" got very high ratings a
couple months ago. So did a KDS for around $349. But I think they each have
a couple models in that size and I don't remember the model numbers. Check
some reviews.

The OEM Dell branded Trinitron is an absolutely superb monitor.
Our company use these exclusively and they are the best monitors I have ever
used.

I have a 21" Sony and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I'm jealous.  That thing must have cost you a fortune.

Hello,

I agree.  Anything with a Sony tube will be good if not excellent.  I
would personally go for a flat tube.  My primary monitor is a Samsung
NF90.  It is perfectly flat.  My secondary monitor is a Mag DX700t
which uses a Sony tube.  It is not that great though.  I am surprised
though because Sony tubes are usually very good.
Make sure you get a monitor with pin balance, etc.

My Mitsubishi DiamondPro 900u (19", flatscreen, aperture grill) looks
great. When it comes to non-CAD/CAM graphics display, it is simply
stunning. For games, imaging and DVDs I really prefer aperture grill
flatscreen monitors- and even for text and detail work so long as you avoid
the highest few res modes where dot mask monitors, for those tasks, really
do seem to work out better, on average.

i'm a big fan of the monitor i own... of course. Hitachi SuperScan 769
19",

very,
very crisp, far crisper than the 21" I use at work at 1600x1200. It's
not
quite flat panel. It's a couple of inches shallower than most 19" and
even
some 17", so it fits on the desk really well. Has more image controls
than
I can use. $590ish last time i looked.
It's great for running GPL and UT at 1280x1024, nice large screen area
to
give a better immersion factor.

Grant.

I almost have the same monitor as you, I have a 19" Hitachi Superscan Elite
751.  Best monitor I have ever owned.

There are two flavours: Aperture Grille & Shadow Mask
If your purpose in mainly ***. I recommend an Aperture Grille
monitor such as Sony G400.

If not, you'd better stay with Shadow Mask. Just get one with good
Hitachi tube. I personally cannot put up with those dumping wires. So,
I got myself an Iiyama VM450. Nice monitor for all purpose.

Also, when going higher resolution, you may want to consider a good 2D
card to get the most out of it. Also, a BNC cable greatly improves the
2D quality.

Good luck.
