I hate hearing about motorcycle accidents. My brother started riding last
year. He works third shift near the airport in Atlanta, and goes to Ga Tech,
so he pretty much mingles with some of the worst traffic in the southeast.

Saw accident photos of a guy who was killed on a motorcycle. The one that
stands out the most was a picture of a tennis shoe with an orange circle
spray painted around it. Foot was still in it, torn off a little above the
ankle. Not pretty.

This was in the late '80s, and I wouldn't have rode one then. No chance in
hell I would now, not with the all the  SUV's and cellphones on the road.

Thanks for the link!

I'll have to search for it elsewhere, however.  I will not create an account
with this site.  I find it far too annoying to consider.

Thanks :)

I will trail-ride (I love it, but haven't been in years), but I will never
ride a bike on the street.

I lost too many sailors to Motorcycle accidents when I was in the Navy.

Part of it is the fault of the dealers.  Yeah, yeah, I know everyone makes
their own choices, but when you offer an 18 year old E-3 Sailor the
opportunity to buy a Crotch-Rocket with no money down, and a paycheck
allotment of $75 a month, well, you're adding fuel to the fire.

You darn Sailors.  Us grunts have to teach you everything...  You don't ride
a motorcycle in the water you ride it on the dirt :)

Yea a dealer in Fayetteville (Ft. Bragg NC) nearly had me on a Nighthawk 750
but I was going to Italy soon so I decided against it.  The cadre preached
HARD against any of us getting bikes for that very reason.

I won't lie to you - last year I had to re-think my interest in motorcycles.  A
bowling teammate was killed on his bike at the end of the season in May, 2002.
We saw him on the last night of bowling.  When I went to the payoff the
following week, I found out that he'd been killed sometime that week.  26 years
old - gone.  Sobering experience.
There are clueless drivers all over the place.  They can get you in a car as
well.  All I can do is have confidence in my *own* abilities, and practice
situational awareness for those who may not be in total control.  If I was
going to let the possibility that a drunk driver may total me and my car worry
me, I wouldn't go out on the roads at ALL.

If you stop living(doing things you enjoy) because of what *might* happen, why
bother to live at all...?  We're all going do die someday anyway - we might as
well enjoy the journey.
I'm not belittling your decision (although I realize it might seem that way).
I guess I just haven't had that life-changing event yet.<shrug>

Sry to hear bout your buddy.

Its not that Im "hiding" in a corner waiting for the inevitable, its more
like does the reward outweigh the risk?  With (at the time) 1 kid the risk
was no longer worth it.  Part of being a man is realizing the decisions you
make will impact those who surround your life and I sure dont want my
children raised without me.

I guess that since I don't have kids of my own yet, my mindset is a bit
different.
