Since Powerslide has already been suggested, I
would add to that the rest of the Ratbag lineup:

Dirt Track Racing
Dirt Track Racing 2
Dirt Track Racing Sprint Cars

If you only want to pick one, I'd pick Dirt Track
Racing 2.

You know, I like LFS right up to the point where they started selling it.
And it's not that I minded paying for it.  I did.   It's the incredible
nuisance they created with the 'product activation' bullshit they
incorporated, it just took all the steam out of the experience for me.  One
more useless thing to have to deal with and worry about that, for me, ruined
what started off as an awesome project.

This project had a unique, friendly character to it up to that point.  They
blew it.

It's a damned shame.

I see Intuit has changed their minds regarding activation.  How many
customers did they lose on that deal :)

I read a review indicating Moto GP 2 was pretty awesome, but I don't know
much about Bike sims.

I was one of them.  I have been using TurboTax since it was available, ditto
for quicken.

Last year, I used TaxCut instead and intend to do so this year.

When I picked up TaxCut at CompUSA last January the TurboTax end-caps and
shelves were full, and I had to dig WAY in the back to find the copy of
TaxCut I wanted.  The shelf was all but bare.

I hear that Quicken 2004 is Product Activated, and thus I have zero
intention of upgrading from 2002.

DTR 2 is awesome.

Despite everyone saying it's basically a console port, I think my
favorite ratbag game is actually World of Outlaws.  The menus could be
better, but the cars feel the best of any game in the series, and
there is a noticeable difference between a wet/dry track and a
low/high groove when compared to their previous sims.

I also like Leadfoot, but for some reason it crashes XP hard when I
try to play it. =/

IMO, Superbike 2001 is much better.  I tried the MotoGP2 demo, but the
controls just felt too arcade/vague for me.  You can find the SBK 2001 demo
on fileplanet:

It seems like *most* motorcycle games have issues with controls.  It's strange
to be using a wheel to control a bike, but the keys don't cut it.  I tried
using a joystick for  SBK 2001, but I never really did vary well in that game.
Too bad - it looks like a great program.

I urge you to try SBK 2K1 again.  It's a lot of fun, despite the lack of
good bike-style controllers.  The Thrustmaster Freestyler Bike controller
gets good reviews, but I don't think any controller or current bike sim can
correctly emulate the countersteering inherent to motorcycle riding.  Do you
ride?  I currently have a Kawi 500R.

I've never been on a motorcycle in my LIFE.  I was going to sign up for a
motorcycle safety course this summer, but they were full...dammit.  This course
was only $25, and they provided the bikes for you.  A lady at work who rides
says the same course will be $350 next year.  That means I probably won't ever
do it.  At $25, it's an easy way to see if I'd like to own a bike someday.  At
$350, that's too much... :-(

The MSF class is a very good class.  I took it in June.  I signed up for it
about a year ago! :)  Sometimes you can get into a class by waiting at the
classroom, they'll take you in if another student doesn't show up.  But yes,
cost can be prohibitive.  Maybe your co-worker was referring to the Rider's
Edge Course by Harley Davidson...that one tends to be a little more
expensive.

In my early twenties all I owned was a bike.  For three years I commuted to
SJ, I rode through rain sleet (no snow in cali where I live).  My best
friend also owned a bike and we had loads of fun riding together.  Right up
till I saw him laying dead in a casket.  The fun went away in a split second
for both of us.   A drunk driver clobbered him and his girlfriend (she did
live) on his bike as they headed over the hill to Santa Cruz one friday
night in the summer of 85'.  I sold my bike shortly after and havent ridden
since.  Huge wake up call for me.  At the time my son was less than a yr old
and I couldnt take such a huge risk any longer.  Certain things in people's
lives are life-changing, this was one of those times for me.  I woke up that
morning a fearless happy boy and went to sleep that evening a scared and
lonely man.  Way too many clueless drivers everywhere (cali especially bad)
and this was a long time ago with far fewer cars on the roads.  Is it worth
it to you or your loved ones that must carry the burden of your choices?
