every six months or so, I feel like having another go at GPL.  I can
sense I'm nearing one of these pathetic events now, so; does anyone
have a semi-exhaustive lists of patches and, uh, "stuff" one can't
live without?

btw; has anyone done a mod to race newer cars in GPL?  or maybe '67
cars on current tires.  that'd be fun.  I think.  or maybe not.

Yeah I understand that, but:

The above is just too much of a coincidence for me, because it also
appears in Emerson's sig. See below.

Now compare that again with your own, below.

You are he, IMO of course.

I'm only a casual GPL racer, and even _I_ disagree with most of what you
posted.

GPL's strength's are it's accurate modeling of the handling of a 1967 Grand
Prix Racer.  If you don't like the way they handle, then there's always Need
For Speed - High Stakes.

The Force-Feedback in GPL is the most realistic available in ANY SIM right
now.  It adds more to the ability to drive the car than anything I've ever
seen in a SIM.

Finally, I have seen a LOT uglier 3D games than GPL :)

Yes, he was the troll.  I pity him coming back as "himself" and try to ask
for normal help.  He badly trolled.

Hmm...

I still didn't bother to put any graphic updates either.
It took me some efforts to setup force feedback properly.
I don't have (or at least didn't before GPL) interest in that era of
racing.

But the driving experience as well as online racing in GPL is superb
and this is the main thing in the driving sim for me. I would guess
that's the main reason why we consider it a great sim.

Alex.

Don't bother please, you seem to miss the entire point to playing GPL..  Here are the two websites
that offer just about everything in patches and add-ons.

http://gplpp.com/  for add-ons

http://www.noctua.f2s.com/links.html for the Ultimate link guide

Why GPL - show off or swank????

by Sven » Sat, 29 Dec 2001 07:35:17

Ok, I was a troll yesterday night (local time was 2 AM) influenced by a lot
of Christmas beer and annoyed by this game (GPL) because of soundproblems
(Windows XP <> SB Audigy), and none of the patches I found worked, the game
run slowly and unsteady framerate, because I did not know of the CPU-fix
patch (the www.papy.com  is still unavailable to me), but everyone wrote
"Oh, a nice game, great game, good sound, nice graphics" aso, and I sit here

poor graphic, and too drunk to drive (even in a sim). Now the framerate is
OK, but the sound is still not good. Clicks and crakles in the enginesound,
funny though, mostly when driving alone. I have now used most of the day,
getting patches, new sounds, tested, but the FF is still "abnormal" I can't
get the right values, and the sound is still teasing me. The graphics is
somewhat around a Quake2 standard, still a long way to RtCW. So I will leave
you with your GPL, and go back to GP3 Season 2000, and I will wait for GP4.

But, nomatter how lousy I was, I still feel this almost religious thing some
of you have about GPL. If you don't think this game is a gift from God, then
you are off. And with all these patches, and repairs there has to be done
for this game to run on a modern PC, I really wanted to know if it was worth
it or not. Some flightsimmers still play USNF (in the old DOS-version), and
they are also religious about it, but they admit, that this game is ugly,
and oldfashioned, but they love it anyway.

I'm sorry I took your time.

Why GPL - show off or swank????

Disclaimer: *Caution!*, this reply may contain sarcasm.

So? -Eyecandy without substance is entertaining for... oh, all of 5
minutes? -Besides, there's already more community add-on eyecandy than my
video card can handle. So lighten up and start downloading.

Hmmm... a matter of taste perhaps and a soundpack does wonders. I can't even
remember what the originals sounded like.

You're right... it's no fun at all! -lol. ;-)

Sure, hundreds of people spend countless hours practising their driving,
creating add-ons and writing utilities just to belong to the GPL community.

Put it this way, the game allows you to get good FF, provided you take the
time to tweak the settings. Which is more than can be said for most games
that ship with FF support. Do like I did, ask someone who's got the same
controller and more time on their hands than they know what to do with.

We might all be surprised.

Jan.

Jan if you can't remember the awesome original Ferrari sound... SHAME on you
